The broken code on that webpage hides a useful explanation:

Reason for this spin-off
To keep gamers engaged while there is a potential delay in the release of the full PC game due to unresolved hurdles. Please be assured that our legal team is doing it's best to fight its case in a major market where a particular company has blocked Gamebience from distributing and marketing any product of ours with their baseless trademark claims.

As well as the following
About the Game
It is a special variation of the full Cricket Life product, focusing only on the aspects of winning games and dominating all forms of statistics as a 'Team'. In this edition, the entire game is based around 'scenarios', with each scenario getting tougher and tougher as you progress.

You step into the shoes of a Cricket Player straightaway as a 'Captain'. Thus, this game is the specialized variation of the full Cricket Life game.
If you are looking for the original flavor of Cricket Life, where you can control the life of an individual player in all aspects, you can still enjoy this game as it has many flavors of the original game. You will also be able to play your original flavor on iPhone & Android as it will release subsequent to this edition.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Sounds interesting, or a cock-up for an excuse.

It's just a shame. The cleverest route is to pack in unlicensed players with the game, and add app settings to edit player/team names. Same goes for if it's on the PC.

From what I understand the game is ready to go but they cannot release it in one of their major markets i.e. India. This is because a company in India called Ambience Real Estates has filed a case against Gamebience over trademark issues. Hence why they haven?t released the game yet, it makes no sense to release the game when you are unable to release it in a market where the game is going to be popular. So to keep people engaged in the game they released the iPhone/Android version. Below is the statement on Gamebience?s website.

According To A User on FB

----------

Gamebience today formally filed a counter-statement to the Trademarks Registry Office in India, denying all allegations made by India-based Real Estate Firm, Ambience Limited, as frivolous. Gamebience also pointed out that Ambience Limited filed a 'Defensive Application', after Gamebience had applied for the Trademark in India.

This is what they have posted on 25th May 2011

Yes I too saw that. Wonder what trademark issue it could be as both see different sort of companies
