Hello All,

I`ve started a new podcast with a couple of my friends that would have a lot of cricket and cricket related discussion over the coming months. We already have a couple of episodes out, two of them have a lot of 90s related cricket nostalgia from an Indian fan`s perspective. Give it a listen in and let us know your feedback on [email protected].

Here is a link to two of our cricket-related episode:

Just curious if anyone has had a chance to listen in yet?

Just had an opportunity to listen to it. I listened to "India Cricket: the sublime & the ridiculous". In that there were few things to learn about especially the things about 90s Cricket those things were interesting to hear. I haven't watched much of the 90s and the early 2000's Cricket except for few great innings from Sachin Tendulkar and that 2001 Ind v/s Aus Test series which I followed on YouTube. I also got to hear about few players who belong to that era who were not that great to make it to the International level but still somehow got to that level. And the points made about MS Dhoni were pretty much valid.

Now coming to that IPL thing,
As far as I am concerned I had absolutely no idea about what IPL was till 2010 that what it was, how was it played, who played it whatsoever. And that year I started following it more closely because of Sachin Tendulkar and because or the way he was playing that year before that I didn't even know how Cricket was played. My father would be watching few games I remember it like 2006 Champions Trophy match Ind v/s Aus, 2007 WT20 Final, 2009 Ind v/s NZ series, 2009 Ind v/s SL series and during that time it didn't bother me much except for the result. 2010 was the year for me I had a better look at the game. Once I had gone out somewhere and IPL match was being telecasted there and I saw Sachin batting for the Mumbai Indians and he was having such great year that watching MI play was watching Sachin play because almost 75% of matches Tendulkar would be batting most part of the innings playing the anchor role and having a final blast in the end overs that was the thing that attracted me towards IPL. But it wasn't much of a yardstick for me to judge a player's talent, for a batsman I would judge by how he middles the ball and how well he times the ball while for a bowler I would judge him by what lines and lengths he bowls and how often does he beats the batsman with his accuracy and aggression.

There was a point raised where it was said that nobody knew Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal or Jasprit Bumrah or players like Gill or a Prithvi Shaw but people started knowing them once they started performing well in IPL. That point doesn't sit well with me. Take for eg, I considered Chahal and over-rated bowler who knew nothing but just keeping bowling dots and batsman gifting him their wickets because of those dots while I actually started to appreciate him only after watching the way he bowled in South Africa. Talking of Kuldeep Yadav I watched him in Under-19 WC and since then I always found in him what required to be an International player, Bumrah I started to follow him after the way I saw him bowl in 2016 series in Australia. Prithvi Shaw I watched his Ranji Trophy 100 when he was just 16 and Shubhman Gill I watched him at the 2018 U-19 WC so I completely disagree with it.

Another point spoke about fixing in IPL and it was said that how teams like CSK are taking the game towards end and they win in the Final over. But what's being unnoticed over here is that this is the way you can handle pressure and that works for them so this is why we see CSK winning matches like that.

And the next point was spoken by a guy who was calling himself a purist of a Cricket follower. Okay for a moment we agree to it but he spoke that Warner made it to International Cricket without playing First-Class Cricket yes absolutely correct. But later he spoke that Warner reached there because of BBL ? I mean how can a purist not know that when Warner made it to International level BBL was non-existent and he made it to that level because of the talent he possessed at club Cricket level and that is what the Australian Selectors saw, so BBL had nothing to do with it !!!!

And later it said about the commentar speaking about DLF Maximum and that is how the kids know it by the name. For me, I didn't even knew that a six was known as DLF Maximum in IPL !!!!! So again it was a point that sounded invalid to me
