Hi i'm hoping to start playing cricket soon as a hobby and maybe join a small team soon i've only played school cricket and i was preety hopeless at that so can anybody give me any tips for batting/bowling etc

thx

hey,

i've got 2 batting tips for you that are very simple but are alos very important:

1)Keep your eyes on the ball (the ball does play some tricks on you sometimes)
2)move your feet so the bat always stays with it ( DONT try to stand and just swing the bat in other words dont play baseball!)

Whatever you do, do NOT bowl fast as your first bowling option. Spin or Slow Medium is a good way to start, and pretty effective(more than people think) at keepin runs down. But if your tall, big and fast, steam in and bowl, intimidation is your friend.

My tip is to just enjoy it. Whether you're good, bad or whatever, there is no point in playing unless you really try and enjoy what you're doing.

Try to play as silly as possible so that you can mark a big impression in others ..

More to come ...

Yep. If you have fun, it doesn't really matter if your good or bad, just like any other sport. Enthusiasm makes up 75% of a great player.

1. Don't listen to Mahesh ;) :p
2. Have fun!
3. Spend lots of money on equipment (joke)
4. Watch the ball with TWO eyes
5. Move your feet, but don't be a sheep to the ball
6. Listen to your coach ;)

Whatever you do in cricket, do it because you enjoy it. Don't for example bowl fast if you want to start spin bowling etc. Oh and wicket keeping is the best part of cricket, i love it!

1. If u want 2 be a bowler dont choose a complicated action to start with. Work on a simple action until uve gotten pretty accurate. then u can modify ur action.
2. while batting keep ur eyes on the ball and try 2 play strokes. wild swings of the bat r no good.

For bowlers moreso than batsmen, employ the wise words of Sun Tzu, do as water, flow towards weakness as water flows towards depression. Sense weakness, exploit it, naturally, do not attack strength.

Overall, it is still a matter which Sun Tzu professes; maintain the initiative. When you have an avantage, press it, if else, defend. it's pure common sense. Loose the initiative and you are fighting a loosing battle. It's purely knowing how to apply these principles that is difficult.

Everything that Richie Benaud has ever said in his commentary suggests that he knows the works of Sun Tzu by consequence innately, if not literally.

For more information, read Sun Tzu's Art of War.
