While the Ashes is going on it seems an appropriate time to roll out another PlanetCricket draft, focusing on the legendary Australia-England rivalry.

You may remember a World Cup draft back in 2011 (http://www.planetcricket.org/forums/cricket-discussion/draft-time-world-cup-history-all-finished-71902.html), this will be a similar story - players to be picked for your team based on their Ashes performances only.

Note: This isn't a draft for simming (although I guess it could be done...), we're primarily here to honour and highlight Ashes legends.

If you're interested in participating, make a post here stating your interest! Bear in mind you'll need to be committed to being fairly active on the forum to keep up with it.

Rules?
*7 rounds - no restriction on what type of player gets picked in what rounds. First 3 rounds we pick 1 player each, in the last 4 rounds we pick 2 players at a time (to speed up the process). That will get us our 11 players each.
*Team that includes Bradman is to pick last in all subsequent rounds as compensation.
*Once it's your turn, you have a 24 hour window to post your selection (but try not to take that long!). Please include a description of your player and why you like him, maybe some stats and a pic or two.
*In your final XI, you must have at least 3 players who played before World War 2.
*Players are to be selected based on their performances in Australia-England Tests only! In this draft, no one cares if Matthew Hayden made 380 vs Zimbabwe, or Devon Malcolm took 9 wickets vs South Africa. Anything outside the Ashes is irrelevant!

I'll give it a go. Just drop me a VM or something if I get lax, which I don't expect to do but you never know

That's 9 potential participants! I'll check the thread again tonight and then draw a line in the sand. We can't have too many guys in it anyway, it would take too long!

Rules?
*I'm thinking 7 rounds, no restriction on who gets picked in what rounds. In the first 3 rounds we pick 1 player each, in the last 4 rounds we pick 2 players at a time (to speed up the process). That will get us our 11 players each.
*Bradman to be included! We usually exclude the Don in drafts because it unbalances the teams, but I think he should be here, as he is a crucial figure in Ashes history. The catch is that whoever goes first and picks Bradman has to pick last in every other round (is this a fair enough handicap? Too lenient?). The other rule relating to Bradman? You can't be over the top in your bragging about having him in your team :D
*Once it's your turn, you have a 24 hour window to post your selection (but try not to take that long!). Please include a description of your player and why you like him, maybe some stats and a pic or two.
EDIT:
*The other rule. In your final XI, you must have at least 3 players who played before World War 2.

Everyone clear on what we're doing? Any questions? If you're not sure, check out the draft I linked in the first post to see roughly how it works.

Start researching about who you might want to pick! :thumbs

Once we get a final head count, I will post up the randomised draft order and we can probably get started by tomorrow!

OK that's 10 players. Seems like a pretty good number to me.

First thing to decide: does anyone particularly want Bradman and the #1 pick? As a price you'll have to pick last in all the other rounds. If you want him, make a post and say so below! If more than one person says they want Bradman, then he'll go to the man with the most persuasive case :p If no one wants him, then I'll take him.

After that's decided we can get this thing rolling!
