‘It’s Now Or Never’ - Capello

iplayer.jpg

Fabio Capello tells the press he thinks England have a strong chance

Fabio Capello has told the media just days before his World Cup warm up that he personally thinks he has the most talented squad of any England side since 66’.

Capello, believes that his squad is the most talented bunch of footballers since England won their last World Cup. The team boast household names such as Terry, Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney. These names, if they manage to come home bearing the cup, will be seen as greats for the rest of time. Capello went on to say, ‘we have performed incredibly well to get this far, the players have put the hard yards in and have come away with their heads held high.’

‘We’ve got two friendly’s now against Mexico which should put us in some good stead before the start of the World Cup’

England have been drawn along side the United States, Ecuador and host nation South Africa in Group G. Capello expects England to top the group and move onto the next stage which will see them face the runner up of Group H, that is if they top their own.

Group H looks to be one of the more straight forward groups, but the battle for top spot will be closely contested. Portugal and Spain have been drawn along side Egypt and Japan to make up the group.

Favourites for the World Cup, Brazil have been drawn with the Ivory Coast, Switzerland and Australia in Group B. Brazil have been given 6-4 odds to win the title, whilst other major contenders include Italy (2-1), Argentina (2-1), France (2-1), Germany (5-2) and Holland (5-2). The bookies have contradicted Capello’s thoughts by giving England slightly longer odds of 7-1 which ranks them as one of the better teams but with a slight outside chance to win.

No real tough groups there, with Group H probably the hardest of the lot. Surprised to see Ghana failed to make it with Gabon, Mali and Tunisia there. Group E will certainly see an unexpected team in the knockout stages.

Nice start Ollie, just touch up on a few of those mistakes ;)

Hart to Start in First Friendly Against Mexico

joehart.jpg

Joe Hart in action on his last performance for his country

Joe Hart has been handed England?s goalkeeper jersey for the first friendly at Wembley.

Birmingham shot stopper Joe Hart, has been handed the first shot at staking a claim to
be England?s Number 1 shot stopper at the World Cup in South Africa. Hart, 23, has had
a fantastic season for Birmingham help them stay in a solid position in the Premiership.

Hart is said to be overjoyed at given this choice and will look to jump on the
opportunity. ?It?s been a long season with Birmingham and have enjoyed every moment
of playing with them. Being given this opportunity has showed how much work I have
put in over the past couple of seasons?

Ben Foster will be on the bench and may get a chance to play, but if he doesn?t Capello
has hinted that he may get his shot at the return leg in Mexico.

Capello has picked Tottenham striker Peter Crouch to partner Wayne Rooney up front.
He has moved away from the choice of Emile Heskey, after the striker has failed to light
up the crowd. Crouch who ended the season with a flourish of goals believes it is a
deserved call up and knew he was always close to Capello?s thoughts.

Michael Carrick, will partner Lampard in the centre of Midfield with Stewart Downing
and Aaron Lennon on the wings.

Teams To Face Each Other On The 24th May at Wembley.

England (4-4-2); Hart, Brown, King, Ferdinand ?, Cole, Lennon, Lampard, Carrick, Downing,
Rooney, Crouch. Subs: Foster, Cole, Bentley, Baines, Huddlestone, Owen, Terry, Barry Defoe.

Mexico (4-2-3-1); Ochoa, Cano, Angel de la Torre, Delgado, Salcido, Pardo, Torrado, dos Santos,
Blanco, Guardado, Vela. Subs; Galvan, Rivera, Franco, Cadena, Castillo, Luis Leano, Martinez,
Garcia, Suarez.
