England National football team thread

disagree.

no doubt in my mind that he could perform really well at that level now.

but there no doubt that he could have a really bad game too. consistency simply isn't there yet.

Don't disagree with that assessment. Although I want him to start, I'd concede that realistically, presuming ENG play the 4-4-2 diamond formation, the only mid-fielders that are guaranteed a starting role are Gerrard in the registra role & Lallana in the triquartista role.

Wilshere, Barkley, Henderson & The Ox are battling for two spots.

Barry's been good.

Ye he certainly has. But he is not competing with Wilshre/Barkley/Henderson/The Ox for a spot though. He is more challenging Carrick to be Gerrard's back-up in the DM role. It can be argued Barry has been playing better than Carrick this season for sure & if Hodgson was to recall & take him brazil instead off Carrick, that won't be much of an issue.

Carrick has gone from being underrated to immensely overrated. You'd swear he was Xavi and Silva rolled into one now.

That's good.

Ox over both Wilshere and Henderson for sure though, Barkley is an AM so shouldn't be compared to them.

Ye in a proposed 4-4-2 diamond for ENG, you could play Barkley as the AM/ tip of the diamond, like Coutinho does for Liverpool, no issue there. Right now i'd prefer Lallana in the AM role behind Rooney/Sturridge, since he has more of the playmaker flair about him to find killer passes.

But i reckon Barkley is versatile enough to play in slightly deeper in the diamond like Henderson/Allen does for Liverpool also. He can run from deep and cause equal havoc, like he did with his goal vs Newcastle on tuesday.

Either way all of those mentioned mid-fielders have the main prerequisite off pace, energy and enough skill which is a critical component needed for ENG & all teams mid-field's in Brazil conditions.

Ha ye true that, Hodgson has a big decision to make on the amount of Man Utd players he takes other than Rooney, given how crap Utd have been this season. Jones, Smalling, Carrick, Welbeck keep appearing in his squads - but on current form other players in similar roles like Caulker, Curtis Davies, Barry & Jay Rodriguez are playing better & really should be picked instead.

Although i would understand if he keeps Jones & Carrick.

Maybe Jones and Carrick. Definitely not Young and Cleverley. If they make the squad, I'd pray England last more than the Group Stages.

What an injustice it will be if Caulker and Rodriguez don't go. Caulker especially is incredible considering the defenders he has around him.

Stones is absoluterly nowhere near england standard yet.

Lot of potential for sure, but the next euros is almost certainly too soon as well.

I guess that might depend on the amount of game time he gets in the next two seasons. He doesn't exactly have massive competition of young ENG defenders starting in the league every week.

Was listening to Stan Collymore on the radio moaning about the price of the new kit. Took no notice until I heard...90 QUID!!!

Well, apparently isn't just a piece of fabric, it magically eradicates sweat, keeps your temperature at exactly 38.1C and helps you run 0.03MPH quicker over 10 yards.
Plus, they're now made out of 16 million recycled plastic bags and have a solar panel that, if worn for five hours during the World Cup, could generate enough energy to power a small cottage off the Devonshire coast for 13 minutes. It's the space age and you'd be a fool not to wear one. Or it's just a football top.
