BCCI has just confirmed that this tour will take place in India. Would be interesting to see how pitches in Ahmedabad behave. 7 games in Ahmedabad is too much but with Covid, I feel if Players stick to one or two cities that is a good from management perspective.

I should better leave Cricket discussion forums seeing an India series thread being created by someone else. :lol Just kidding :D

Well I was quite excited for this series. Infact I had been hoping to attend one of the Test matches of this series but Covid had other ideas. Thank God no matches are held here in Mumbai. Also I hope these matches take place without crowds or else there would be a terrible outbreak in the country.

Pune is our ultimate jinx ground.

We have a history of losing games there.

Chennai in February? That's very interesting. Good that they are now forced to give games to Chennai during the non-rainy season (somehow BCCI gives Chennai games during rainy seasons and see so many washouts).

Hope there can be atleast some kind of a crowd for the T20's and the ODI's.

I am excited for the D/N test in AHmedabad. I know that stadium has been built up brand new and with Jay Shah running BCCI, always knew Ahmedabad will be getting more games. Giving CHennai 2 games make sense since its an hour flight from Sri Lanka where England will be playing before coming to India. I still feel we could have played matches in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai.

So apparently Rory Burns is due to miss the tour on paternity leave. Good on him, but it will be interesting to see what England plan to do to replace him. There are obviously a few options:

1. The simple promotion
:eng: :bat: Dom Sibley
:eng: :bat: Zak Crawley
:eng: :bat: Joe Root
everyone else...

Promote Zak Crawley to open again, right after his excellent innings looked to have inked him into number three.

2. The Keaton Jennings
:eng: :bat: Dom Sibley
:eng: :bat: Keaton Jennings
:eng: :bat: Zak Crawley
everyone else...

I'm as keen as everyone else to see Keaton Jennings play more Test cricket - which is to say not keen at all. But it's one series that you're going to drop him at the end of regardless.

3a. and 3b. The "pull someone out of England Lions" option
:eng: :bat: Dom Sibley
:eng: :bat: James Bracey or Tom Kohler-Cadmore
:eng: :bat: Zak Crawley
everyone else...

I don't think either of these two inspire confidence, but they're already in the England system which will count in their favour.

4a. and 4b. The "pull someone out of county cricket" option
:eng: :bat: Dom Sibley
:eng: :bat: Hassan Azad or Chris Dent
:eng: :bat: Zak Crawley
everyone else...

Honestly I think these are the best two options, but they're also the options that England have been least keen on in the past.

5a. and 5b. The Jonny Bairstow
:eng: :bat: Dom Sibley
:eng: :bat: Jonny Bairstow or Zak Crawley
:eng: :bat: Zak Crawley or Jonny Bairstow
everyone else...

Oh god please no...

6. Something else entirely

I'm curious what people think of those options, and more broadly what their entire England squads would be for the India tour if they were fortunate enough to be Ed Smith

Will 100% be:

5a. The Jonny Bairstow

everyone else...

My prediction:
Sibley
Jennings/Crawley
Root
Stokes
Pope
Buttler
Moeen

or Jennings and Crawley play and everyone drops down a position. They may try the Bairstow opening but he's was angling for the 3 spot at Yorkshire in the summer (I think), so you could push Crawley to open and have no Jennings.

It'll be someone old hat who's fell out of the team before. Might even go fully balls to the wall and have Moeen open

I guess Moeen is in competition with both Bess and now an opening spot. I doubt they'd want them as the only spinners in the side against India's right handers. Three off spinners (inc Root) would be bonkers.

I am inclined to agree with Ed Smith and say that the correct answer would be Hassan Azad, but that the real life answer will be Jonny tweaking Bairstow. Or possibly Keaton Jennings

Although I am very much amused by the idea of @wasteyouryouth and his meme team. Something like...

:eng: :bat: Dom Sibley
:eng: :ar: Moeen Ali
:eng: :bat: Zak Crawley
:eng: :bat: Joe Root
:eng: :ar: Ben Stokes
:eng: :bat: Ollie Pope
:eng: :wk: Jos Buttler
:eng: :bwl: Dom Bess
:eng: :bwl: Jofra Archer
:eng: :bwl: Stuart Broad
:eng: :bwl: Jimmy Anderson

- - -

I do have one idea actually.

:eng: :bat: Dom Sibley
:eng: :bat: Zak Crawley
:eng: :bat: Ollie Pope
:eng: :bat: Joe Root
:eng: :ar: Ben Stokes
:eng: :bat: Dan Lawrence
:eng: :wk: Ben Foakes
the bowlers

Would basically involve picking the right players. Dan Lawrence for instance had 10 first-class hundreds by 23 years of age. He's got a huge future and this would be a big opportunity to drop him into the deep end.
