Collingwood Magpies

The Collingwood Magpies are looking confident for the up coming AFL Season. Season 2008 is apon us, and the Magpies have come out saying they are here for the big one. One of the most popluar clubs in the competition, and arguably the most hated clubs in the competition are ready for the new season. Coach Mick Malthouse has gotten the Pies across a tough Pre Season campaign. "The young kids got through the pre season, it was a tough campaign for them, with very warm weather and training 2-3 times a week was getting to them. But they have all pulled through well. Even the older players like Rocca and Wakelin have pulled up well and are looking fitter then ever". Mick Malthouse said.

We have a young list of players, and we want to play them this season just to get some game time into them all. Players like, Dale Thomas, Ben Reid, Cameron Wood have all impressed through the pre season, and now they wil be rewarded getting a game come round 1. We still need to play the pre season competition but i have no doubt, that all of our youngsters will impress in their 1st matches. It will be a interesting season ahead for Collingwood. They have the dept on their list to win a premiership. But like every team, there are some weaknesses. Their defence is certainly an area that they need to work on. Wakelin is the lone defender down there. With the retiermenet of Nathan Buckley Nick Maxwell will wear the famous number 5 gurnsey, so maybe that will inspire Maxwell to play some good footy in defence. Nathan Brown will become our centre half back and Harry OBrien is another tall we can exploid against different players.

We have been known to be slow in the midfield with players like Licuria, OBree, Burns and the likes in the middle. This year we are going to go with a new look midfield. Dale Thomas, Dane Swan, Heath/Rhyce Shaw, Alan Didak are few names that will feature a role in the midfield at some stage of the year. We need some speed in the midfield, and that is something we have been lacking for a number of years.

It will be a interesting year ahead for the Magpies. Will they make the top 8? Most certainly, but will they be a top 4 chance? Lets see what they have.

Pies star as Dockers gets injured

Collingwood have come off with a huge Round 1 Victory against the Fremantle Dockers. A 53 point drubbing of the Dockers was a good way for the Magpies to kick start 2008. Infront of a miserable crowd of 14,562 people, and with clumy weather around, the Magpies showed their class, as they thumped the Dockers.

It was all class from Collingwood. All beginning from the midfield, the Magpies won the ball all over the ground. The Magpues had a miserable day infront of goals kicking 15.23.113 for the afternoon as they could of extended the margin by a considerate amount. Fremantle didn't have much good for the afternoon, coming down with 3 serious injuries to key players. Paul Haselby, Luke McPharlin and Des Headland all in the Dockers best 22 players, have all gone down with injury, let's just hope its nothing too serious for the Dockers.

Leon Davis played a ripper of a match for the Pies. Having 23 possesions and kicking 4 goals he was a standout, and is looking fitter and more determined then ever. Shane OBree was a suprise packet. Started the game on the interchange, but when moved onto the ground he played perminantly as a forward pocket player. Malthouse played more youngsters and quicker players in the midifield this afternoon with Didak, Pendlebury, Clarke all having a run on ball, while the likes of OBree and Burns had more freedom around the ground. OBree finished the match with 3 goals next to his name, and was one of the best for Collingwod. Scott Pendlebury was best on ground kicking 2 goals and picking up 29 possesions, he was a star for the Magpies. Dale Thomas and Josh Fraser were well down on form as Aaron Sandilands dominanted the ruck division, winning 41 hitouts to 9.

Some big injuries... It seemed the gaping whole in the middle and gave the pies some drive to the forward line. But good update... big win

I don't know aything about AFL but your presentation is very clean and looks very good. Well done so far mate.

A fantastic win, hopefully you can keep this up. Good luck. :)
