Figured out why timing in nets and in matches is not the same !!!

Folks,
I think I have figured out why there's a discrepancy in timing between nets and the actual gameplay/match. It looks like the batsman used for practice has full confidence!!! No wonder timing won't match when we are in the middle with a batsman with no confidence!

This is how I figured it out... I was playing a match with Pietersen on 50 odd and full confidence. I wasn't able to time lofted on drive very well and so saved the game and went to nets. Practiced in the nets for some time and came back and the nets actually helped me as I was able to hit 6s at will and with the same timing I practiced in the nets!!! I went on to score 140 odd with Pietersen, inclusive of 14 sixers.

But the timing simply didn't work with a new batsman. I played a new match and tried to play the same shots I was playing earlier with Pietersen - this time with no confidence as it was a new match and he had just come in at the fall of a wicket. The same timing that was fetching me 6s earlier got me a couple of miscued boundaries and I was finally out for 14.

Can someone else try it out and confirm whether or not you had a similar experience? By the way I play on PS2 and thus with no patches.

but how come the front foot shot timing aint bad and did all the Backfoot cover drives work and make the proper sound not a misstimed one

My guess is that the front foot shots are quite easy to time and don't depend too much on confidence. Whereas, back foot and lofted shots are deemed to be complex (by the Cricket 2005 developers) and have more dependence on confidence and thus the mis-match in timings.

Try the approach I have listed for shots that require more confidence. You will be surprized to see that the shots dependent on confidence have the same timing in nets as a batsman with full confidence in a real match.

By the way I have only tried this approach with lofted drives and it worked.

Good find there. I have to agree as the batting is much easier in nets and very hard to transfer directly to a game.

So the confidence meter plays a vital role in EA cricket 2005, is it possible to play leg side shorts easily with full confidence as these are the only strokes that i always miss time with no AI patches. And the CPU always bowls a middle and leg stump line.

I haven't found too much of a difference in leg glance timing as it's one of the easiest shots to play in the game and hence least affected by confidence. However, shots like hook, which I can play in nets' is way too difficult to time in the match in case the confidence of a batsman is low. The reason being that shots like cut, hook, pull etc., require high confidence and once you have high confidence, timing of these shots is similar to the timing in nets.

I guess in the next version of EA Cricket series, while practicing, users should be able to choose confidence as one of the parameters in the nets. Thus, users can practice in the nets with no confidence, a little bit of confidence or full confidence and timing should reflect the same. This way nets would be in synch with the actual gameplay. I hope EA incorporates this in their version.
