A new low for Yankess
redskins-signs.jpg

Yankees Manager

In 2010 season, Yankees had the worst possible start. They lost all 6 of their matches played in the first half of the season(3 OD and 3 T20). Fans were disappointed so was the board. Atmosphere inside the dressing room was claustrophobic. There were reports of clashes between players and the manager.
Board decided to take the matter in its own hand and terminated the contract of the Manager who was with Yankees for last 3 years.

Fresh start.

AngryPixel laughs off at a reporter who thinks he might be too young for the job
Yankees decided to opt for a fresh approach thus they sign a 5 year contract with "AngryPixel" a young creative manager. In his first press conference, AP dealt with the media pretty well and showed some of his cards for the season ahead. He hinted at some big transfers and emphasized that on the basis of performance in next few matches, some senior players might get the boot if they don't perform.

Fast Forward(21st September-25thOctober 2010)

Change in manager worked like a charm for Yankees as they went on to win 4 OD games and 5 T20 games in next 1 month. During this period they played in handful of Friendly game and results were promising. True to his word, AP fired inconsistent and poor players. What started as a transition from old Yankees team to the new, turned out to be a complete makeover. In the span of 30 days, all the original Yankees players were fired and 17 new players were signed. Fans gave a mixed reaction. Some felt alienated from the club and some find this refreshing move which might prove to be decisive in Yankees hopes of league championship.

Yankees Unveils 6 new faces

Yankee+Stadium+host+Notre+Dame+Army+Matchup+Uk2sOVhb0oEl.jpg

Yankees spent nearly half a million Dollars in last couple of days, securing transfer of 6 new players. AP, referred these 6 players as the core of Yankees team for the future. All eyes would be on Kris Caterer who was the most expensive transfer of this season for Yankees. Some suggest that such a big amount would add extra pressure to Kris. But Kris dismissed the speculations and said that this amount of transfer money shows AP's faith in him. According to him, such faith motivates him to perform at his best and he promised to give his 200 percent out on the field. Lets see whether Kris turns out to be a hero for his club or another expensive flop.

Here are the 6 players

Kris Caterer
23 year old, Right hand opening batsman.

Mark King
24 year old, Right hand middle order batsman

Cillian Fitzgerald

24 year old, Right arm medium bowler, Old ball specialist.

Charles Dunbar
25 year old, Left arm medium bowler.

Brendan Campbell
25 year old, Right arm fast medium bowler

Edmund Baird
20 year old, Right arm batsman, Offspinner (Allrounder)

26th October 2010, NYY vs HYG.

26th October 2010,

New York Yankees vs Horrifying Young Guns

Pitch Report:
Studio: Yankees face HYG in a away T20 match today. It is a mismatch on the paper with Yankees looking miles ahead. Yet, cricket is a funny game. You never know... New Yorkk.... errmm. Ravi Shashtri is at the ground, lets get down to him for the pitch report. Ravi!
Ravi Shashtri: "Good morning Ian, The pitch has a tinge of green on it but the weather is absolutely clear, not a single cloud in the sky. Beautiful atmosphere for a cricket match. That should be good news for the batsman. Bowlers may get some early movement of the pitch due to the grass and also in the air with the new ball. Sun is beating down here, so openers have to bat out first 30 minutes. After that its a batting paradise. Bounce would be even and there wont be much turn in this track. Back to you Ian...

Team Selection
Yankees are playing 5 of their 6 recent transfers. Youngster Edmund has to sit out today.
Here is the playing XI

Lesroy Christopher
Kris Caterer
Mark King
Levi Carr
Bryce Lydamore
Jock Bradshaw(WK)

Brendan Campbell(C)
Amit Mishra
Screech Powers
Cillian Fitzgerald

Preview

26th October 2010

5 New faces in Yankees team.

The Big Picture
There is a lot at stake for both teams in this match. HYG needs to win this in order to maintain their top position in the league. While with a win Yankees would move up to second position with just 4 points behind HYG. Yankees were in news last evening due to 6 big transfers which experts have labeled as a move towards championship. Fans would get to see 5 of those 6 players in action today and surprisingly one of the debuting player is now the captain of the team. Yeah you heard it right, 25 year old Brandan Campbell is the new captain of the Yankees. He was a very successful captain at his previous club so it wasn't a shock for him. Lets hope this change in command wont create any ego clashes within the team which has plagued them in the earlier part of this season.

HYG has a unchanged team which has lost just a single T20 match this season. They have been clinical in their approach but faltered with both bat and ball in last match. They would be looking to make amends but Yankees would be a tough task for them.
Screech Powers returns from a break and is fit for the match. He's been top performer for the Yankees this season. He has two 5 fors and couple of handy innings with bat under his belt. Opening bowling pair of Powers and Dunbar would be a treat to watch.
Form guide
(most recent first)
New York Yankees:WWWWW
Horrifying Young Guns:LWWWW

Watch out for...
Kriss Caterer He's a young talented player. He would be looking to justify his price and prove his critics wrong.

Charles Dunbar
Labeled as Akram's successor since his U19 days. Dunbar certainly knows how it feels to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. He's been impressive in his brief career. On a green pitch, he could be deadly.

Team News:

New York Yankees: Lesroy Christopher, Kris Caterer, Mark King, Levi Carr, Bryce Lydamore, Jock Bradshaw(WK), Charles Dunbar, Brendan Campbell(C), Amit Mishra, Screech Powers, Cillian Fitzgerald.

Horrifying Young Guns: Not declared yet.

Stats and trivia
*If Yankees win this match, they would move up to 2nd in the league standing. Just 4 points behind HYG.

*Screech Powers is top wicket taker for the club with 19 wickets in 5 matches.

*Christopher is the leading run socorer with a hundred and one fifty. Lydamore is second with 2 fifties.

Quotes

"I'm here to score runs. A lots and lots of runs"
Kris Caterer in a cocky mood.

"I don't know why everyone is shocked with me captaining the side in my debut game. I'm not doing this for the first time."
Brandan Campbell, tries to justify AP's decision.

Match Report: NYY Won by 8 wickets

Powers scripts emphatic win

bowled.jpg
Powers was too good for Horrifying's horrible batsmen today

HYG: 67/10 in 15.3 overs(Mandava 38, Powers 5/17)
NYY:71/2 in 5 overs(King 38, Caterer 28) NYY Won by 8 wickets.

Screech Power took his 3rd 5 wicket hall of the season to bowl out Young Guns at a paltry score of 67. Young Guns had the worst possible start where Powers removed 3 of their batsman in the very first over of the match. While Dunbar had a decent debut game, he took 1 wicket in his 4 overs. Mandava tried to steady the ship but was drawn to a poor shot by Mishra when pressure was building. Fitzgerald shown his skill with the old ball and took 1 wicket in each of his 3 overs to clean up the tail.

Highlights
Powers's first over:
0.1 W Powers to Banker : Gone!! Banker flashes hard at a rising ball outside off stump, only to get a top edge that sails high down to third man, where it is pouched comfortably by King.
J. Banker c M. King b. S. Powers 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR:0.00

0.2 1 Powers to Katka : On a length from Powers, the seam movement gives Katka just enough width to late cut it down to third man for a single.
0.3 W Powers to Kathrada : Missing off, missing leg, plumb as they get.
V. Kathrada lbw b. S. Powers 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR:0.00

0.4 . Powers to Madhani : [great fielding] Well cut off by Dunbar moving to his right.
0.5 W Powers to Madhani : [catch] Madhani has gone for a massive swipe, but has only managed to toe the ball in the air straight to Campbell at mid-on.
A. Madhani c B. Campbell b. S. Powers 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR:0.00
0.6 1 Powers to Katka : That ball is speared in towards the ribs, but Katka turns it around the corner adeptly and picks up 1.

Rest of the wickets:

2.3 W Powers to Katka : He shuffled across his stumps looking to work to leg and was struck in front by Powers.
K. Katka lbw b. S. Powers 3 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR:60.00
4.1 W Powers to Manesh : Wide, but he's dragged it on! He was looking to flay that away through the covers, but a lack of footwork has caused his downfall and the off stump is disturbed.
G. Manesh b. S. Powers 1 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR:20.00
7.5 W Dunbar to Mirajkar : On the back foot, Mirajkar pokes at the ball outside off stump. Out, and I doubt we'll see a worse shot than that today.
S. Mirajkar c J. Bradshaw b. C. Dunbar 3 (6b 0x4 0x6) SR:50.00
11.4 W Fitzgerald to Nadhamuni : [catch] Nadhamuni drives at a wide ball, but only succeeds in giving an easy catch to Caterer at point.
D. Nadhamuni c K. Caterer b. C. Fitzgerald 8 (10b 0x4 1x6) SR:80.00
13.6 W Fitzgerald to Naimish : A lofted drive goes straight into the hands of mid-off. Dunbar takes the catch comfortably and that's the end for Naimish. He is quite unhappy with himself.
S. Naimish c C. Dunbar b. C. Fitzgerald 7 (11b 1x4 0x6) SR:63.64
14.1 W Mishra to Mandava : Mandava was drawn into a poor shot by an excellent piece of bowling by Mishra. A simple catch for Bradshaw and Mandava's innings comes to an end.
A. Mandava c J. Bradshaw b. A. Mishra 38 (45b 3x4 0x6) SR:84.44
15.3 W Fitzgerald to Sudarshan : [catch] Who said you had to bowl good balls to get wickets? Fitzgerald slipped in his delivery, and the ball lost all its pace there. Sudarshan had time to have a cup of tea before he hit that, but still managed to pick out Dunbar, who was the only man inside the circle on the onside. That was a comedy of errors all round.
D. Sudarshan c C. Dunbar b. C. Fitzgerald 2 (7b 0x4 0x6) SR:28.57

It wasn't the best of start for Yankees too on a pitch which was a little tricky. Christopher departed for a golden duck on the first ball of the inning. After that King and Caterer gone berserk. They were severe on anything short or wide. Kris had a point to make and he did with some glorious shots. They brought up 50 run partnership in just 21 balls. King was the more audacious of the too and that cost him his wicket when he stepped out and missed the ball. Youngster Levi Carr came to the crease and was greeted with a wait high full toss which he duly obliged by dispatching it for 6. Kris finished unbeaten for 28(12).

Highlights

0.1 W Sudarshan to Christopher : [catch] Drifting into Christopher before spinning away, he fails to move his feet and, wrongly trying to work it to leg, gets an audible outside edge and off he goes.
L. Christopher c J. Banker b. D. Sudarshan 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR:0.00
0.5 4 Sudarshan to King : The ball tantalizes Nadhamuni right to the boundary. Four runs to the total.
1.3 6 Christensen to Caterer : Tossed up by Christensen, at it's been absolutely nailed by Caterer. Flat and hard over long off for six runs!
1.4 4 Christensen to Caterer : Gorgeous timing, a neat flick of the wrists and it rockets away behind square for four.
2.1 4 Sudarshan to King : Sudarshan strays onto the pads and so King tucks the ball away for 4. Good shot, bad ball.
2.3 4 Sudarshan to King : No point Christensen running for that. King has leant back and caressed it through the covers for four.
2.5 6 Sudarshan to King : Sudarshan attempts the wrong-un but the ball just ends up at King's feet for him to smack over the boundary rope.
3.3 3 Christensen to Caterer : The batsmen will need to be quick here, and they are. Brilliant fielding from Kathrada had King at full stretch to make his ground.
That is the 50 partnership (52 runs, 21b, 4x4, 2x6) SR:247.62
4.1 4 Naimish to King : Pitched on middle and King wristily flicks it past a diving square leg for four. Nice shot lad.
4.3 4 Naimish to Caterer : Width on offer and Caterer duly spanks it away behind point to the boundary.

4.5 W Naimish to King : Brilliance from Naimish, and he fully deserves it too. Drags King down the wicket, beats him in flight, and Banker stumps him with consummate ease.
M. King st J. Banker b. S. Naimish 36 (17b 4x4 1x6) SR:211.76
4.6 6 Naimish to Carr : Naimish tries to bowl the googly, but just ends up bowling a waist high full toss, which is promptly dispatched over midwicket. Six runs!

Man of the Match: Screech Powers

Can Yankees win the World League Division 2?

New York Yankees recent performance have drawn a lot of attention. One team which was looking doomed at the start of the season is now ready to play with the big boys in FTP World League. Fan's would be delighted to know that Yankees are now participating in the World League kicking off on 7th November. They have been placed in Division 2 for this season and a good performance in this season could see them promoting to Division 1. Though it would be a tough task for the young Yankees team with teams like Hyderabad United, Iridium XI and Chewie's team playing is same Division. Yankees would start their preparations of the league with a friendly match against Aditya's team on 28th October. Then they have another friendly against Hedger's team on 31st October which would be a mammoth task for Yankees as Hedger's team is one of the strongest team of Division 1.

Fans can check the WL updates here. http://www.planetcricket.org/forums...mes/planetcricket-ftp-world-league-70518.html
