Hey, can someone please help me with a general batting technique, I am a gun bowler yes but I am the worst batsman ever. I am so dire that my highest score in club level is only 3 and I have never ever hit a boundary before. I have been playing for 2 years now FFS, please help. I am desperate to improve and I am practicing hard on defence as that is what I am best at. I have played a few solid knocks from time to time, one of which was when I was battng 11th and when needed thirty or forty odd to win, then I played an awesome knock of 1 (41). Anyways, I am seeking help in all areas if possible is I can score atleast double figures this season. The other thing is that everytime I go out to bat I have memories of this guy named John steaming in and ripping in a bouncer which was very quick and slammed into my ribs. This fractured my ribs and somehow I think that this is effecting me in more ways then one. Is there any ways that I can block this memory of mine out so I am not so scared of the ball (because I am reminded of this). All help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

As you use a Kookaburra bat I am here to help you ...

When you go there to bat just don't go and start hitting first play defensive shots and then when you fell you're set start with drives..

At home Pratice on the Hanging ball

In the nets if you get to play 6 Overs play first 4 defensive then 1 with drives and the last one with sixes and fours...

See how your batting improves:cheers

If you're really, reallylow on your confidence, just go into the nets and tell the bowler (machine is better) to bowl bouncers and just try to hit everyone for 4. Sounds agricultural, but it works. And if you still feel nervous, get a chest guard (the aero ones are top notch) as they give youmore confidence as younow don't have to worry so much about being hit when you miss a bouncer. Below are some videos to help you with your batting technique:

And if you want to learn more, type in 'cricket batting' into Youtube and you'll get some very professional videos.

Yeah thanks for all of your help so far guys. I hope that it really does work out for me ok in the long run because after all that is what is important to me. Now I know that this is really off topic but I figure that I may as well post it now before I forget about it. I just wanted to know why my posts have to keep being approved all of the time and if there is a way that I can change all of that. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's because you've received a few spam infractions or something.

AFAIC they should do that to you at CricSim. It would stop your spamming.

Well, I have the same problem as you. I play school cricket, and the first seven or eight innings I played, my scores ranged from 1 to 9. Then I was promoted to No. 5 in the batting order as a joke, and I scored 32*.

It's all about the attitude in which you go on to bat. I found if I put too much pressure on myself, I get fidgety. You have to firstly watch how the pitch is playing out and how the bowlers are bowling, and once you have an idea just distance yourself from the rest of the team and meditate for a bit.

Once you're at the crease, remember to watch the ball till the last second - that is very, very important. I found i wasn't doing that initially. Also, after you've been at the crease for a few overs and you feel set, then whenever you see anything overpitched or too short, have a whack at it. But remember, watch the ball till the last second.

Also, initially, you should try to tap and run against the fast bowlers. And sprint the first few runs, I find that helps get me loosened up.

When you're practicing, just practice perfecting your technique again and again and again. Endless shadow practice helps. Also, try to improve your balance and footwork.

Well, there it is. I hope it helps. :)

I have only been here two day so I haven't received any infractions, warnings and what not yet so I really do not know what is going on at the moment with my account. I think that I will have to hunt down nightprowler and talk to hm on MSN to see what the problem is. But until then all I can do is sit here and post sensibly.

Positive and relaxed mind is the secret of being a good cricketer

ya agree just have a positive mind dont think omg look at this bowler he is so fast and how am i suppose face him just think as a normol bowler but u really gotta concentrate cuz it will still be back of your mind

I suck at batting too, but there are reasons why.

1 - Watch the ball from the hand. Focus on it completely. Have no other thoughts. I get distracted easily, few balls in and I'm trying to think how to slog the next ball away, leading to not watching the ball, and getting out.

2 - Fear. If you are scared of a certain delivery, you won't be able to play it. I hated yorkers in hard ball cricket as it slammed right into my toe onces, and as a result I just kinda got out of the way of full balls. I got over that eventually, I just said 'Screw it. If I hurt my toe, it gives me an excuse to retire hurt and not field!'

And third - Don't look to score. I always bat better if I don't need to score runs.
This could be a problem though. My theory is that you start scoring runs eventually, you just need to get your eye in, get in form, and wham. Although I've yet to see it happen to me, so don't take my word on that...

Its because you are a new member. All new members have to get their posts approved.

Well...back on topic. All I can recommend is that you practice. As somebody mentioned above, get a chest guard and practice with a bowling machine with bouncers and stuff.

Sure thing, I am trying my best at improving my game and am practicing in the backyard with my brother on the general technique. The only other thing is when I have to face a pace bowler I have this memorie of the ball slamming into my ribs and breaking them, I have this 'flashback' all the time now and I think that it is effecting how I play. Is there a good way that I can block this memory out?
