General Cricket Discussion

@wasteyouryouth how does qualification work for 2022 T20 WC? I know the Top 12 teams playing right now automatically qualify which means Scotland, Namibia will play next year in the main event.

The 2022 WC is going to be 16 teams (20 teams from 2024). This means that 4 teams from qualifiers this yea, the next 4 highest ranked team (Zimbabwe, Nepal, UAE, Singapore) and 8 other teams will compete against each other for the remaining 4 spots?

If I have understood it correctly, that is unfair on the 16 teams to be narrowed down to 4. ICC should have kept the 2022 WC 20 teams as well.
Yeah. Two global qualifiers in February and May. Two teams from each go into the finals.

So we are going to have the qualifiers again? Or all 16 will be grouped next year?

I don't know for certain but my guess would be that it will be qualifiers again. How they determine the teams (from the 12) that go into the qualifier I'm not sure.
That to me is complete bullshit. I feel they will take top 8 teams and bottom 4 and pair them with the incoming 4. I really hope they have 4 groups of 4. It is so unfair on smaller nations to play so many qualifiers to play in one more qualifier.

Imagine Jersey/Germany who have qualified to play in the qualifiers to only get knocked out in yet another qualifier. Like WTF!

Oh I completely agree. I think having warm ups played at the same time as the qualifiers is also kind of disrespectful and devalues the tournament as well. This tournament has already been more enjoyable for me than the 2019 World Cup just because there's more teams on show.

I think 4 x 4 there is the risk of India only getting three matches which is considered unacceptable.

Then let India play against all teams to qualify :p. Make it easier on others if ICC wants India to play more matches.

With India out of equation, make 3 groups of 5 and India playing against all :p In gully cricket we used to call something as Kacha Limbu, do not know how would that translate to make sense, but that person would be the weakest person playing both the side or sometimes the strongest one playing for both the side :p India could be that

Just have India in Group A and India A in Group B. At least one of them should qualify.

Haha

We used to call it Beech ka Bicchhu

(translates will make no sense: scorpion in the middle LOL)

I can relate with @WutUpMahGlipGlops when he says the word "Kacha Nimbu". We use that word here in Mumbai quite often as kids.

I was privileged to become one since I was one of the youngest amongst my cousins & siblings :p

Anyone else use ICC TV?

Signed up a few weeks ago. They've shown lots of the regional qualifiers for the T20 World Cup and Women's World Cup.

Fairly basic coverage, the commentary is sub-Murali Karthik, but it can pass the time if you've nothing else to do and it is free.

Not sure why the ICC can't just stick the matches on YouTube though.

This year's world cup just doesn't feel like one at all. The commentary team isn't the most well compiled lot either.

Or is it just me beginning to lose taste?
