Gilchrist defends Hayden.

This 'tera maa ki' excuse sounds like something a lawyer would come up with.

No standup comedians came up with it. Actually there are more in Punjabi language that sounds like it.

Thats what I have been thinking.

We should boycott the series until Harbajan tells the truth. :P Then he can take his ban. The only reason Harbajan got of was because of their empty thread to boycott the series. If they hadnt done such a cowardly thing and put so much pressure on the ICC, it would have been different

Obviosuly something was said. The Aussies arent that bad just to randomly make it up.
But its impossible to prove unless an official heard it which wasn't the case, so technically he is innocent!

I couldn't see Australia gaining anything from making it up, since they have been trying to defend themselves from bad reports in the media of late and calls for the sacking of Ponting because of "unsportsmenship"

So making this up would be something the Aussie cricket team could afford to make this up. But it was obvious that there was something said, what we will never know.

Sheesh, I just tried to start a new thread about a media conference of Gilchrist to show how to handle the media and look where it has gone! Looks like anything related to Ind-Aus cricket is going to start a controversery. LOL!

There isn't anybody who believes that nothing was said. There was obviously an altercation between the two and that's one of the reasons that the Justice looked down upon Clarke's testimony, when he implied that Symonds didn't say anything, as if to cast the entire blame upon Harbhajan. The key here is that Symonds has accepted that he is unsure of what Harbhajan said during that altercation and that he could have used the words 'tera maa ki'. It would be best to leave it at that, rather than have the clueless arm-chair heroes here arguing over what was or what was not said.

I actually agree with that. Why the eff would Harbhajan sledge in Indian when he knows Symonds won't understand.

Common sense tells me that it is pure bullcrap to cover up the fact that he did say something else, a desperate attempt to make him less guilty.

Having said that, the arguments posted by Pal are very valid ones and I'm only going to look at this from a very biased position, so I'm not one to take great notice of.

I didn't know Harbhajan spoke Indian.

I don't want to speculate here, but you would think that he would be more comfortable responding instinctively in Hindi, rather than a language that he doesn't speak very well. That's beside the fact that Sachin Tendulkar, who was the closest to the two, testified that he heard Harbhajan use those words, so this is not something that the media has created.

Sorry, Hindi.

But still, if you're going to sledge someone, it would be quite stupid doing it in a language that they don't even understand, it just doesn't add up. It defeats the point of sledging really, you aren't going to work someone up or show aggression if the other party can't understand what you're saying.

If only the stump mic picked it up clearly, all this would have been cleared up.

It wouldn't quite as stupid as sledging in a language you don't understand and know very well. There would be no point in rambling senselessly.

Maybe because he was ticked off and wanted to let something out and didn't want Symonds to understand it?

I guess the debate will continue on and on. Aussie fans wont believe for whatever reason(s) they have that Bhajji have not said 'monkey' and WE will not belive Harbhajan has said it.

But they have not proved he did, or didn't say "monkey" all I have seen is we have reached a peace and had it settled since Symonds couldn't be sure of what he said. For all anyone knows he did say, but it cannot be proven.
