In Test cricket, his ability to keep the batsmen quiet isn't very useful. Plus he has this habit of bowling a ball down the leg side every now and then as he attempts to fire the ball into the batsmen's pads.

He also bowled a lot of half-volleys and long hops in the Pakistan series and never looked like getting wickets at any time.

So he doesn't do enough either way to justify a place as a pure bowler. Of course, if he was half-decent as a batsman and could score consistently his case would be different, but he's just a hit-and-miss slogger and that doesn't cut it.

I feel Harbhajan needs to go back to his basics, and sort his mind out. He needs to look for wickets. He has to prove that he will be an attacking bowler when Kumble bows out of the game. He has to prove he can take over as India's premier spinner after Kumble retires.

The speeds he has bowled so far in Australia have been too quick and flat. He is very mercurical too. He bowls well when he is in that mood (which no one can predict when it will come). It comes when Ponting is at the crease. But apart from that, when it comes we dont know.
