As far as i knw, Try one of the options

1) try to heal it ( using Anti virus )
2) Try to move to vault making it inactive/dummy ( using Antivirus.... AVG has option "move to vault " )

3) As a last option, Format the system!

Well i use AVG! & AVG antivirus's best feature is it will detect automatically if there is a virus in ur system... eg : if Virus resides in Windows folder, On entering into that folder itself, it will detect and asks to heal/move to vault!

But i dont knw about other Antivirus like Norton!

But Formating the system, keep it as a last option if no solutions has been obtained! ( Generally not recommended unless u have no other way to go )

Wait mate, other antivirus users here might be able to provide different solutions!

thanx guys, am running a system scan now and friend has recommended Computer associates so am downloading that but it keeps crashing and my work keeps cloasing down etc....

Completely ignore any popups that come up unless you know theyre geniune antivirus program instructions. They are generated by the program.
Virus removal can be an absolute pain. They are engineered and designed to stay in the system, so you're not usually going to get away with just a virus scan.

The key is restarting the computer in Safe Mode. When you boot up your PC, and the Windows logo comes up, keep pressing F8 until a screen with some options comes up. Highlight the one saying Safe Mode and hit that enter key.
Safe mode just runs the bare minumum of Windows, nothing apart from basic system components which makes it perfect for removing viruses.
See if you can write down a list of files you need to delete, I'm not sure, google the virus, then search your computer for the filenames given.

Oh, and in future, it makes sense to name your threads something sensible (like "Help, virus problem". For all I know, you could have been asking for help with your Barbie game which keeps crashing  (that was a joke btw, I surely hope you dont have that game installed).
