I thought along with some others I would start a diary of my 2008 cricket season. In this diary I will include
  • Weekly Updates - Saying how my cricket has gone during the week
  • Team Changes - The In's and Out's of the team I'm in.
  • What i think of my team mates and coach.

Last year I played in the Under 14 A team for my school and my club's 2nd XI. It was a fairly poor season. I batted at number 8 and didn't bowl. Towards the end of the season i started voicing my thoughts how it was unfair that a few of us were just in the team to as it seemed 'make up the numbers' this year I'm hoping to change that.

During the Winter Off Season I had some private coaching outside of school - which I have had for most of my life - these went really well and in my school nets the coach seemed to be paying more attention to me.

I think of my self as a batsmen. Hopefully an opener - As an opener I was a part of two hundred stands in a season with two different people. - People look at me and think I'm a bowler but i have never been able to keep a set action so have struggled. I have changed my style of batting I used to be a big hitter and am now trying to be more subdued and build a score.

Rugby and Cricket are my best sports. In rugby I am regional standard and play in a few positions.

So follow how things go for me and my team.

Have some updating to do,

Thursday 17th
Was my first training session in the season and straight back out into the middle, I had a bowl and felt i bowled fairly well. Maybe a tad too sort, Got a nice one to seem away from one of our premier batsmen. Batting was rather shocking, Tried to sweep my third ball back and swept it straight into the hands of mid-on, Fielded all right. I haven't got a great arm on me but i am a very good fielder with a good set of hands. Take a majority of catches and most stick when going one handed.

Friday 18th
Our Friday practice nearly always consists of fielding but our coach told us we were going to have a net to get back into the swing of things, I didn't bat but I just wanted to bowl. I feel as if my bowling has got a lot better. I manage to cause a lot of trouble getting some swing and managing to hit our best batsmen in the ribs and our wicketkeeper as well.

Saturday 19th
We were supposed to have a match but it got rained off. I didn't mind i was off to a friends house,

Tuesday 22nd
We had a little match against the year below. I was also told that i would be keeping as our regular keeper has broken his thumb. I was as shocked as my team mates. I had only kept once before and was a little nervous but excited at the same time. I didn't bat and kept alright. Was happy with it.

Thursday 24th
Another supposed match that was rained off. So we had an indoor net sesh. I had already run 1.5 miles and cycled 3.0 miles but no complaints and straight into the nets to have keep. Practice standing up to the spinners. Went well and batted fairly well.

Saturday 26th
Finally a match and my first as a keeper. We bowled first so i was straight into the spotlight. It went fairly well not edge chances apart from one off our leg spinner that went passed my shoulder. Can't really count as a chance. Only let 6 byes through in the whole innings.

Didn't get to bat, but i was the next man in,

Match result;
Them; 148/4 after 30 overs
Us; 149/4 after about 24 overs.

Dinesh Karthik only became a keeper because the regular one didn't show up!

We have our very own KKD in Ollie here! Good luck mate, I'm sure you'll do well.

:)

Good luck for the summer. And I know how it feels to have rain. Our previous 3 games have been rained off, hopefully it'll get better for the May/June/July part of the summer.

Right well 3 matches since then..

My first one we were playing Winchester. We batted first and made 220 - 9 off 35 overs. They didnt go for it and made 115 - 9 off there 35.I got a Golden Duck. Nothing behind the stumps for me again. Was keeping well untill our fastest bowler caught me on tip of the finger and had to change keeper wih 9 overs left as I was in too much pain.

Cranleigh 220 for 9 from 35 overs (Davies 64);
Winchester 115 for 9 from 35 overs (Cordy-Redden 2 - 10, Powell 2 - 7)
Cranleigh won by 110 runs

Second match was a T20 cup match. Against Gordons school,

Again we batted first and posted 189 - 3, Some quality batting from our opener Ollie, who now has 2 50's and a 100 in three innings after this game.
They then batted I dropped a catch off our leggie which was one of those catches that either sticks or doesn't. Then missed a stumping off the last ball.

Cranleigh 189 for 3 (Davies 101 not out) 20 overs ,
Gordon’s 89 for 5, 20 overs. Cranleigh won by 100 runs

Then yesterday we had St. Pauls away, A rather fascinating game. We were put in to bat and it all started well when we were 48-0, but we then went to 55-5 untill our tail end put up some much needed resistance and we posted 102 a/o. They gave us some horrible banter and were general pricks. When the guy got me out he looked as if he may have just scored at Wembley.
They then rolled the pitch! Cheeky B's!

It was then our chance to bowl and we came so close. I took two catches behind the stumps. They were about 14-3 and had one big partnership and got there with two wickets to spare. I had some funny as sledging with Ollie the other opener. I was giving the new batsmen (who was also there keeper) and It went something like this;

Flicks it to Square leg and calls yes, The other batsmen sends him back.
Me; Ohh..Nice shot mate, looking solid and a bit nervous.
Him; Yeah, Thanks well batted mate;
Me; Anytime mate,

Next ball he gets bowled! Me and Ollie were laughing our heads off and just started shouting

'Well batted mate'!!

Also had some banter with there best batsmen..
Me; You guys have no clue how to bat do you (they were doing worse than us)
Him; You cant keep either

Me; We make a good combination, You can't bat and I can' keep, We should play together more often.

Next Ball

Me; Im pretty sure your keepers worse than me, He's let through a lot of byes,
