South Africa names women's WT20 squad
ICC News

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced a 15-member squad that will represent the country at the inaugural ICC Women?s World Twenty20 in England in June.

After staging a two-day training camp at the University of the Western Cape two weeks ago, the National Women?s Selection Panel named the 15 players, which included bowler, Dinesha Devnarain of KwaZulu-Natal.

The 20 year-old, Devnarain replaces Eastern Province?s batter, Claire Terblanche who is the only casualty in the squad that participated in the recent ICC Women?s World Cup in Australia.

"We have stuck with the squad from the World Cup with the exception of the return to the squad of Dinesha Devnarain,? said the convenor.

?Dinesha is a skilled all rounder, bowls very good slower balls, which in this form of the game is a necessity and can make an impact on our game.

?The girls have obviously learnt a few hurtful lessons from the World Cup and can now focus on further preparations for the T20 exams. We rely heavily on the players, individually, to continue with their preparations and wish them the best of luck and form.?

The SA Women?s Squad: Sunette Loubser (Boland) captain, Alicia Smith (Boland) vice-captain, Susan Benade (Free State), Cri-Zelda Brits (Gauteng), Trisha Chetty (KwaZulu-Natal), Dinesha Devnarain (KwaZulu-Natal), Mignon du Preez (Northerns), Shandre Fritz (Western Province), Shabnim Ismail (Western Province), Marizanne Kapp (Eastern Province), Ashlyn Kilowan (Western Province), Marcia Letsoalo (Northerns), Charlize van der Westhuizen (Northerns), Yolandi van der Westhuizen (Boland) and Dane van Niekerk (Northerns)

The All-India Selection Committee (Women?s cricket) announced on Tuesday the India squad that will take part in the ICC World Twenty20 2009.

Led by Jhulan Goswami, the side will be hoping to build on its third place finish at the ICC Women?s World Cup, where it recorded two surprise victories over Australia, after it had lost 5-0 to Karen Rolton?s side in 2008.

There are three changes to the ICC Women?s World Cup squad, with Babita Mandlik, Latika Kumari and Diana David all winning call-ups.

Full Squad:

Jhulan Goswami ? Captain, Amita Sharma ? Vice-Captain, Mithali Raj, Anjum Chopra, Rumeli Dhar, Sulakshana Naik (wk), Anagha Deshpande (wk), Priyanka Roy, Reema Malhotra, Gauhar Sultana, Harman Preet Kaur, Poonam Raut, Babita Mandlik, Latika Kumari, Diana David

Australia names preliminary squad

Commenting on the preliminary women?s squad, WNSP Chairperson, Marg Jennings, said:

?The WNSP is extremely pleased with this preliminary squad for the World Twenty20.

?The squad has depth in all areas and will ensure that selection in the final squad of 14 will be highly competitive. The squad contains a number of young players who will press for selection following the retirements of Emma Sampson and Leonie Coleman after the World Cup.

?While our World Cup result was disappointing, we feel we have the players to rebound quickly and perform strongly at the World Twenty20.?

England will run riot with New Zealand coming second. Dark horses are probably India considering they have some good quality bowlers.

I can. Don't write us off completely. We defeated the Aussies two times in the WC by huge margins, and we were placed the third, just after England and Kiwiland.

We are shouting and bashing MSD's boys for not being able to do anything in this WC, but you know what the great thing is? We can still bring home a trophy!! :happy Puzzled? Don't be. ;) Today, our Women's team will play the semi-final of the Women's T-20 World Cup. Yes. Jhulan Goswami's girls will face Kiwiland in a semi final battle today. It's revenge time. I still remember that Kiwiland-India match in the Women's World Cup which caused our exit. Go India! Chak De. :happy

BTW, what's really annoying is that this match will not be aired in India. Doh! So irritating.

New Zealand are favourites for that one. I think it will be another England v New Zealand final.

It is ridiculous it is not being shown in India. The whole idea of the semi-finals being played on the same day on the same ground as the men was so the women get more exposure.

No doubt the Kiwis are favorites. But we'll give them a fight. We have Mithali, Anjum, Priyanka, and our skipper, Jhulan. Though I agree that our inexperience in this format might work against us. And here are the cricinfo probables:

India

1 Poonam Raut, 2 Anjum Chopra, 3 Mithali Raj, 4 Rumeli Dhar, 5 Sulakshana Naik (wk), 6 Reema Malhotra, 7 Amita Sharma, 8 Harmanpreet Kaur, 9 Priyanka Roy, 10 Jhulan Goswami, 11 Gouher Sultana.

Kiwiland

1 Lucy Doolan, 2 Suzie Bates, 3 Aimee Watkins, 4 Amy Satterthwaite (capt), 5 Nicola Browne, 6 Sara McGlashan, 7 Sophie Devine, 8 Rachel Priest (wk), 9 Kate Pulford, 10 Sian Ruck, 11 Sarah Tsukigawa.

No, wait. They are telecasting this in India. Just saw. But how am I supposed to know this? The Star Cricket website is down, they are giving no ads, the local media is totally silent, same with the newspapers, just three/four paragraphs saying we have gone to the semis- just that, nothing else, when it will be telecasted etc etc- nothing, and there is no news whatsoever of this T-20 WC in the 24x7 news channels. This is so annoying! Exactly like what happened to the Indian men's team in the 07 T-20 Cup- the media is totally ignorant. Hope India wins this Cup, and shows these guys that women's cricket is equally important. If they do win this tournament, that will be a great, great achievement. A perfect slap in the face for the media.

Anyway, coming to the match- 146 is the target set by the Kiwis. Not really great, but not bad as well. Hopefully we have some good T-20 cricketers in the side, and well, let's see. Chak De India! :happy

Hopes of an Indian win is fading away right now.
We need 121 runs to win from 82 deliveries.Anjum Chopra is eating deliveries just like what Dhoni or Jadeja did for us.
