Ideas for Ashes Cricket 2010

I would prefer they went back to the SWC '99 bowling cursor and have the circle collapse into itself and then disappear during the bowling run up.

Thats good idea. Also there should be a option to hide/disable the bowling cursor, which will make the batting more challenging.

How could you possibly know where the ball was going to pitch? It would make the game stupidly difficulty in my opinion. If anything, the cursor could disappear after final pitching point, so you at least have to remember it's final position.

You beat me to it!

The only way a non-existent bowling cursor would work would be a full integration of motion technology. I like the idea of remembering it.

The manual mentions there's more chance of the ball swinging under cloudy/humid conditions, but has anyone actually seen the damn thing move in the air before pitching, under any weather conditions?

Another case of having the wool pulled over our eyes i reckon, ball age, weather conditions or anything else appear to have no effect despite what is written within the manual. I think they got that trick from EA.
These thing need addressing for the next version big time, I've already lost hope for the PS3 patch as from what i have been reading there is only going to be a slight improvement. A polished turd is still a turd!!

I think it is safe to say that next game that comes out in 2010 would be alot better. they do have the foundation now so they can build a new game with lots of new and improved things. They have got the time now and feedback from us. They also know now that there is money to be made from this title as ashes 2009 sold in pretty good numbers.

This is for guys who still finds the batting easier after all the patching has gone in.

He is right about how it would be stupidly hard but the option of it would deffinately be good for the people who find the game waaaaaay to easy.

Hello all. (Sorry, long post)

I like the idea of using the 2 sticks for batting. This is implemented in MLB09 - left stick to aim and right stick to prime batter (pull back) and then power (push forward) the shot. Maybe this could also be used somehow for bowling instead of pushing a button for the type of delivery.

I mentioned this one in the open beta thread - a runout mode. Close in (or out) fielders have an opportunity to perform a runout. Could be in slow mo, first person or above view mode when a fielder fields the ball, batsmen run and the player has the chance to throw down the stumps at either end by using a power/accuracy meter. How this could be added into the game I'm not sure. Might only work for online play.
I played a demo of MLB 09 and the control method is awesome through all aspects of the game. Throwing to bases is as easy as left/right/up/down and is timed by a meter for power which affects how accurate your throw will be. Using something similar could be done?

A leg glance for a leg glance and a late cut for a late cut animation instead of a sweep off pace bowlers and a tennis shot for the shots behind point. I know it's a minor thing and the gameplay outpoints any game to date but, it would be nice to see the right type of shots represented by their correct animations.

Catching - I think the 'green zone' should be longer for outfield catches. After all, you do have longer to make the catch in the outfield. Leave the close in ones the same.

I think having no bowling marker would make batting too hard - unless depth of field was implemented in the game graphics, and I think you would need to have batting visuals from behind the batsmen which included the ability to 'see' a yorker ball.

More tournaments.
More domestic cricket.
A career mode. Would have to be a linear progression with 'triggers' for advancement. International selection progression might be - from state or county get selected for T20, perform - advance to ODI's, perform - advance to Test selection. You might have a couple of games at each level to prove your worth or be dropped.
A better in-game field editor that allows saving of custom fields.
Allow to be Moddable because licensing issues will always exist. I think this would also add to the replay value of the game.
Game size isn't an issue anymore. Most sports type games these days come in at 6/8/10GB or more when installed. For me, I'd be happy to lose some of the bells and whistles. Nice graphics are nice graphics but the bottom line is gameplay.

Lets hope Codies & TG keep this base and progress forwards!
Sales of the game and this forum should at least show that us the cricketing consumers are serious about continuing to have access to a decent cricket game.

You obviously have never played SWC/BLC '99. What you suggested is exactly what I suggested.

After the release of the beta patches we now have a very good foundation and im fairly happy gameplay wise.
I'd like to see a more comprehensive player editor something more akin to PES with the ability to import faces. I also feel there needs to be far more full tournament options available and how about a custom tour option with a selectable test, ODI and 20/20 itinerary. Not to mention a world tour mode.

Graphically I'd like to see much better lighting changes over the course of a match which would be linked to the current in game clock (not just the pitiful 3 lighting states the current game has). The shadows gradually lengthening during a long days test cricket and the sun setting during a day/nighter. Plus the possibility of cloud cover building up during a session which could lead to rain delays or bowler friendly conditions.

Agreed, Oblivion does this with aplomb: the light and weather changes throughout the day, but not so often as to be noticeable - it's very gradual (real time, relative to the time speed you have set - if you get what I mean).

how about if there was a hardcore mode where the cursor is not visible at all?
