In a statement Malcolm Speed said "This idea was under consideration for some time. The popularity of cricket in the subcontinent is for all to see and with India and Pakistan having such array of great players, it's a great opportunity to see them in action together against some equally great players from around the world."

Jagmohan Dalmiya said "The excitement of India - Pakistan matches is followed around the world. To see these fine players playing together as one team will be an exciting event for the whole subcontinent.
