India in England Jun-Sept 2014

I dunno, man. True, we've been awful in this Test, with all the ghosts of yesteryear lurking again - incompetent bowling, shoddy fielding, shaky batting in the face of difficult situations, the works - but we've got what it takes to come back from this. Treat this as an aberration, sort out our selection, and we should be competing in the next Test.

Also, and I cannot believe I'm saying this, we must hope and pray that Ishant regains fitness before the next match.

The problem is .. in the process of losing this game, we have helped the English batsmen get into form. And if we once again go with the 4 bowlers lineup, we will most definitely lose again

Master's of spin having tough time with part-timers... I feel Dhoni should have come before Rohit. Rohit cannot be trusted.

If this is not gifting wickets i dont know what is, makes me cringe, i can understand getting done by some anderson swing or broad nipping deliveries but this.

The real issue is that India are not playing their best team for some odd reason. Yes I'm not Ashwin's biggest fan but he is the best spinner that they have in the international set up, so why not pick him for 3 tests in a row. Jadeja is a bits and pieces cricketer who can bat a bit and rotate bowling ends but he is not a spinner of any international quality, especially in Test cricket. That's the problem, India's poor team selection has allowed English batsmen to feel comfortable again, not face a spinner of any discernible quality and get back into form against mediocre medium pace bowling.

But all credit to England, especially these four guys: Anderson, Ali, Ballance and Root.[DOUBLEPOST=1406755044][/DOUBLEPOST]

Ali bowled very well, he was getting the ball to turn and his line was great at times, it's all you can ask from a spinner and the batsmen were caught in two minds...initially they seemed to think, "we can attack him, he's only part time" but over the last couple tests, they have realised, as have I, that he is actually a more than decent spinner so now they have no plan for him.

But I agree, no batsman on the planet should be getting out to Root.

It's shocking how bad this India side is against spin these days. The days of Laxman and Ganguly definitely seem to be long gone. I mean it was bad enough when we beat them in India with spin, but looking clueless against Ali is worrying, but getting out to Joe Root is just embarrassing to be honest.

No credit taken from Ali he certainly looks good, but still he is no front line spinner, he is not someone who is going to spin a web around you like swann or murali, he is just going to drop it in the right places and look for you to make a mistake kind of bowler, indian batsman especially someone like pujara and a settled kohli getting out playing for turn when there wasnt much and then dhawan throwing it away with root was a bit too much, i can accept pujara's dismissal as he was new at the crease, but kohli and dhawan should have shown better sense.

I'm not even gonna bother following the scores today. It's done and dusted. England are worthy of the win. They dominated each and every session of this match.

The problem sometimes emerges from the fact that some of them have`nt played enough first class cricket against quality spinners. The dearth of good spinners has not only become a problem for our bowling resources but also led to batsmen not being that great against spin. Ajinkya Rahane, Vijay and Pujara, guys who have played a lot of Ranji Trophy cricket are generally very good players of spin. Kohli looks good when he attacks spin and he did not do that yesterday owing to the match situation. Dhawan has never looked stable against any form of bowling, to be honest. Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar, Azharuddin, Sehwag and Ganguly were all good players of spin because they never let them bowl where they wanted to. Tendulkar and Azharuddin against Warne at his peak, Dravid and Laxman in 2001 and Ganguly against any kind of left arm spin were all examples of never letting them settle and throwing the bowlers off their length. The current lot do not seem to use their feet a lot. Even Dhoni who is comfortable against spin does not naturally use his feet a lot.

Quietly checks the score every hour and gets his hopes up when India are 180/4. Checks again after lunch to see them 221/9.

Since we need some optimism..... Rohit Sharma to cement his place in the side after a match "winning" 150. Rahane gave him able support to get to 80, while Dhoni and Jadeja smashed some quick runs to get over the line.

India wins the match with an over to spare.

Totally possible :spy
