India in the West Indies

Zaheer took a 9-fer thats true... but he gave 110 for 0 wkts in the period before and after his wonderful bowling spell. What more, he was thrashed for 73 runs off 38 balls by Gough and tail-enders after he took his 9th wicket.

taking 9 wkts is a great thing for sure but giving away so many runs and that too to tail-enders in the same freaking match is inconsistency at its best. Perhaps he was tired but then if he was he shouldn't have been bowling. Cricket is a team-sport. Records are nothing compared to the team's cause and the game itself.

dude, they were looking for that one wicket, and had everyone inside the ring for any catch. None for in the outfield, providing Gough and others to score runs. The BBC themselves said that.

Don't make a big fuss about that.

Plus, Zaheer had some of his chances dropped by the close in fielders. He could've very well had the tenth wicket.

Is the 3rd test going to get off without any problems? There seem to be some $$$ issues between the WI players and the borad.

What a contrast of two sides - one that is loaded with $$$ and almost all members are multi-millionaires and on the other side there is not even enough money to contract a full playing eleven.

Yet the poorer side romped to a stunning ODI Series win, and brought about the resurgance of a long dormant team. This next Test is a must-win for India.

I think the self proclaimed "Indian" fans are upto it once again.

They have forgotten what has Sehwag been doing for the past year and half for his single performance (180 runs on a palcid pitch).

Zaheer's so called "excellent spell" brushing aside his other performances.

Grow up guys and stop being the "THALI KA BAINGAN".

Looks to me that you're just a little upset that everyone had forgotten about you.

No one's judging the Monk by a single performance. He has been putting in the bowling efforts wonderfully, and he has got starts in all his innings so far, and even gone on to make a big century on a "placid" pitch that almost had the Windies lose by an innings. And let's also ignore the fact that he almost scored 100 runs in the first session--would have only been the fifth such occasion in test cricket, and that he almost got the fastest century by an Indian.

The Monk's never been a player you expect to hit 50s in every innings of a series, and I believe his contribution has been one of the most valuable in the series thus far.

Getting start is of no use for the team when you throw it away.

Also the job he is doing (bowling) though commendable isnt his primary job.
He needs to score runs.

Your comment that "he is not expected to hit 50's " must be for your automatic slection for the next installment of TGILC. Why is he in the team then ????
It would have been obvious if the contention was ODI's but for Test matches its just not on mate.Everybody is expected to score runs.

Name one cricketer who has hit consecutive 50s for a large part of his career and I'll agree with you. Apart from Dravid, no one has really been consistent for India with the bat. Even in his last 15 games, the Monk averages 53, including 3 centuries and 3 50's. He has one of the highest conversion rates in Test cricket. Of his 12 centuries, 8 are 150+.

He is an attacking cricketer and he has got the job done, for the most part. I am not so sure about his ODI selection, though he came roaring back with 2 90's in the ODI series.

You sprout nonsense most of the time!

Sehwag is the last person whom I would blame at all, for anything wrong that happened so far in this series. He has batted fluently, scored a hundred, has bowled very well and has contributed a big part to the team!

yes, he has been in a poor form for the past year and a half. but we arent saying that he is a permanent member now. but do you want to say you want to drop sehwag for the next match? what are you trying to say to us here? that india should drop sehwag to go in with 5 bowlers? if ur meaning that, thats stupid. yuvraj and laxman are the people to be on the firing line. sehwag is in top form this series. he cant be dropped. and we need an established opening pair. this pair scored a century partnership the previous match!

Right on! why would you want to drop sehwag when he has taken 4-5 wickets in the match and has made a hundred?
I was suprised to see him replace Harbahjan as a second spinner but he has done very well.

"The Monk" was reeling under a drought of runs for the past year or so. Myself and a couple of posters on this board had agreed that West Indies tour was his last chance to reverse his fortunes.
He has fought back tremendously and has had a good run on this tour.
"The Monk" doing the job of the fifth bowler has been a huge bonus for India.
Maybe "The Monk" could be the permanent fifth bowler. Still our bowling attack as a whole has to do better.

Our bowling would have to be really bad to have the Monk as our fifth bowler. In ODIs at the least. In tests, fine, they aren't looking to attack and the older ball drifts and grips more, but in ODIs, Yuvi+Sachin for me.
