What bothers me is not Pujara getting the leadership, what bothers me is the typical short vision we have. Pujara was out of the team just 2 series ago, remember? I am not against it, it just baffles me that our selection, our vision is so short sighted and us as fans are doing nothing about it. Now I am not telling like old days to burn players house, but we deserve better with the talent we have, fans need to raise their voice and hurt BCCI with money where it matters.
The only thing that will ever hurt BCCI is IPL hitting a downward spiral - but I just dont see the fans giving up on it. We have had a split IPL and the fans lapped it up without complaints. We have had back to back IPLs within a space if 7-8 months and it was again followed religiously by the fanbaseWhat bothers me is not Pujara getting the leadership, what bothers me is the typical short vision we have. Every monster have an weak point. Wait till IND crashes out in WC23 at home. The fans need to have patience and wait. Probably till Jay Shah grows old and barely can hold a pen (I doubt whether he can do it even now) and take his bum along with politics out of cricket.created a monster which we can no longer control

Ipl will stay for long. I don't see miracles. Possibility of the format truncation may be on the cards somewhere down the line, soon! As IND is certain to embrace few more humiliation in international level with current crop of superstarsMaybe
Or we might drag ourselves into the knockouts relying on individual brilliance (while more than half the team under-performs) i.e. just doing enough to stay afloat until the next IPL
I'm almost tempted to echo you on Rahane. But his performance is against him. Shaw is no in tests. He is capable to take over White ball helm but we have Hardik and pant out there. Chances are slim. Gill is a performer. Yer to know more about leadership from him but I sense we'll make a captain Babar Azam with Gill, if given the reign. However that's from far future.IMO, get back Rahane, let him lead the Test team for2 years until his retirement. Build a team around the youngsters in the interim. Identify either one from Shreyas or Gill or Shaw to take over in the long run.
Ashwin for Rahane and Pant as deputy are changes I'd make in tests. Also the ENG model (separate red ball and white ball captain) is what IND cricket need at the moment. 3 formats captain won't be a far fetching solution IMO. For White ball cricket, I'll go with your t20 combination.Test- Rahane till end 2024, have Shreyas as deputy
ODI- Rohit till CWC 2023, then Shreyas (Gill as his deputy)
T20- Pandya from now, make Shaw his deputy
With the amount of cricket India play, the amount of time off the main captain seems to take, two captains is a must.Ashwin for Rahane and Pant as deputy are changes I'd make in tests.
