England is a country which has eased almost all the restrictions after their double vaccination thing.

With no strict bubble a case up here & there is bound to happen and shouldn't be a surprise at any cost since COVID cases will likely happen even after double vaccination.

So either you maintain your bubble thing or be prepared so such outcomes.

And currently it seems like ECB was not expecting the latter to happen.
The ECB made exceptions when they've wanted - see The Hundred carrying on despite cases in support staff and players. Whereas other domestic cricket has had many matches cancelled.

I'd be surprised if the game doesn't go ahead. Although I expect it will depend on the outcome of today's testing.

The worst case scenario is any player getting tested +ve which will most likely will be the case.

Don't think game can go ahead in a situation where 3 to 4 players are testes are +ve or any infact to be honest.

Entire Indian squad returns negative tests.
That certainly is good news. Though I think cancellation is unlikely, this should make a even stronger case.

Coming to the match, the good thing from India's PoV is that they have two out the three results going their way - either 2-1 or 3-1. For the lineup, I feel Shami will come back in place of Siraj, who looked off-colour in the 4th Test. If Rohit is unfit, we might see maybe Shaw getting a game? A risky move but high risk, high reward.

For England, with Butler confirmed to be back in the playing XI, gotta be interesting to see if Pope makes way for him, especially after his stellar 80 runs in the 1st innings. Wood seems like he is about make a comeback as well. They may have to take a huge call on Jimmy - play the entire series or rest him....Overton, Ollison both played their due part, so not sure who would make way for Wood. And Leach to be back or what?

The 5th Test is back on. It seems we will play without a physio. Expect the ECB physio to be paid extra for this game :p

Social media is asking for Shastri's head because of his book release event. I am not a fan of Shastri, but I am going to side with him on this. The everyone is moving around freely without concerns, why should Shastri be held accountable for attending an event?
Honestly, not sure how the bubbles work. It does seem that he attended the book launch event alongside Kohli, but then again, England has never enforced restrictions pertaining to Covid in a strict manner.

I would rather go to the extent of blaming the ECB and say that they did a poor job with the bio-security. Forget bio-security, their normal security couldn't stop the idiot Jarvo from entering the grounds on 3 occasions

There are rumors of a tussle happening between ECB and BCCI where ECB is reported to have asked BCCI to forfeit the fifth test and the BCCI (especially with strong opinions of Kohli and Rohit) have vehemently denied the request and are planning to play the test match.

Now, doesnt the ICC have a say in this? If India was unable to field 11 players, then yes, we would forfeit the game. But, here the fault lies with the bio-security of th ECB's bubble that caused Covid to creep in.

Ok so it's the match day finally!!

From 2013, there have been 8 matches at the Old Trafford of which teams batting first have won 5 of them. This is the same ground where Root scored 254 against Pakistan back in 2016 while Steve Smith scored 211 against England in 2019 Ashes. Moeen Ali claimed 7 wickets in the Test match against South Africa that had the likes of ABD, Faf, Amla & Elgar so it gives an impression that spin will play a part in this match.

With the luck of tosses not with India, I expect England to be batting first today. Although, last time England played against India they bowled out India on 154 and eventually won the match by an innings. But I don't expect that to happen.

With the World T20 approaching it is less likely for India to play not so fit looking Rohit & Jadeja. So I think Shaw will replace Rohit & Ashwin will replace Jadeja. Shami is definitely coming back I guess for Siraj since he looked a bit off as compared to Umesh. Ishant might not play. Rahane will continue to be the part of the XI.

I am assuming India would play this team

Shaw :bat:
KLR :bat:
Pujara :bat:
Virat :c: :bat:
Jinx :bat:
Pant :wkb:
Thakur :ar:
Ashwin :bwl:
Shami :bwl:
Umesh :bwl:
Bumrah :bwl:

I am getting a feeling that England would repeat their 2nd innings performance at The Oval in 1st innings over here.

Frankly, I am a bit disappointed with India's double standards here. The support staff has been diagnosed with Covid, yes- but to ask ECB to call off the game/ postpone is a bit ridiculous. Not long ago, another Indian team had 5 players down with Covid in Sri Lanka and they didn't utter a single word back then. So, BCCI, why the double standards?

India have forfeited the game, as per British Media

I am so pissed! Wait and watch these same players strut out in Dubai for their respective franchisees now!

All thanks to money they want to earn in IPL, they don't want to risk IPL participation, it's obvious.

On the other hand, how did the bubble breach?
