Gotta say that amidst all of the criticism, saving Narine for the later overs was a genius move by DK.
KKR has a really good group of leaders and experienced players supporting DK. Obviously Morgan, but Russell, Narine and Cummins. Felt very reminiscent of a couple of the England v Australia matches where they squeezed the batting the middle overs so they've got new men coming in when they need to be accelerating (not just Jadhav, Dhoni didn't get going either).

If they can settle on a batting strategy they'll be even more impressive.

Him denying a single in the first ball while Jadeja scores three boundaries in the last three balls should tell the team that he should be dropped. No more excuses.
I feel, they need to bring in Tahir for Bravo sooner. You cannot wait for last leg of the tournament.

Ridiculous is such a small word for what KEDAR JADHAV has done today! Even Dhoni showed intent today right from the first ball that he took a big swipe at (so unlike Dhoni). Dhoni struggled as usual against mystery spinners (he was kept down by Narine and gobbled up by Varun), but what Jadhav did out there was UNPARDONABLE!!

Social media was abusing Dinesh Karthik for keeping Narine out for too long, but man what a genius move that was to keep Narine for the latter end of the innings!! I am sure BMAC and the backroom staff also had a hand on that, but it was superb decision.

Well..... CSK need to urgently take a call on Kedar Jadhav! Cannot hide him out there in the batting lineup. They could've actually hid him today and won this game, but yeah he needs a sack IMMEDIATELY! Even Murali Vijay in that spot would've shown better intent. They got to punt on Jagadeesan sooner than later, or get back Ruturaj. Well anybody but Jadhav!!

I thought CSK actually bowled pretty smartly today and were hitting their straps. Shardul Thakur has been a revelation in these 3 games and has genuinely looked like a bowler who is fighting it out hard there. Bravo came up really well in that last over. Deepak Chahar had a trash day today, and that didn't help at all. But the bowling part keeps looking better for CSK.

Always believed KKR had good management and leaders. I mentioned before that its not bad having more than 1 leader. Dinesh Kartick is a good human and a decent leader. Add Morgan, McCullum, Hussey, Russell and other seniors in the mix, that's a superb management.

I think he saved Narine for Dhoni.
Dhoni vs Narine in T20s -
80 balls
39 runs
1 boundary (4)
45 dot balls
2 outs
48.75 strike rate

I cannot imagine how you feel man! That was a game that would have shown CSK domination, superb bowling comeback and good start to batting. If not for brilliant captaincy and Kedar Jadhav, CSK would have won.

I just feel like it's a case of 'too many cooks spoil the broth' at the moment with all the leadership in the side out there. Too much of unorthodox strategies such as Cummins as the all-rounder, Narine as a pinch hitter, the middle order musical chairs have played a part. We all know how Baz loves his unconventional and risky plays but if they do tone it down a bit and made such plays a bit less often I can see this side being a worthy third contender. Narine at four for example is one such thing, while the figures show that he did well his boundaries came off Bravo and he did not particularly force Chennai to bowl pacers at him. They did not have any express pacer to trouble him or Russell later on in any case and after his dismissal it just seemed like a case of "well, now that we do have a cushion what do we do?" which contributed to the middle order struggling and Chennai tightening the screws.

Also I'm pretty sure that Jadhav is going to bear the brunt of the blame (7 runs from 12 balls and denying singles is pathetic in any case) but this loss wasn't down to him. Cummins' final over and Narine's late introduction dented the partnership of Chennai's and that is where I feel momentum started slipping away. Add in Dhoni starting slowly and this time losing his wicket before making it count and then you see Jadhav's struggle. He isn't going to score 39 runs in three overs in any case. The close margin of victory for KKR is nothing more than Russell taking the foot off the gas to avoid conceding extras, had his first three balls been bowled to Jadeja I doubt the latter would have bettered Jadhav.

Yeah, I don't buy Pat Cummins as an all rounder. But, if you can get 30-35 runs from him and Narine at 200 I think that's decent. 34 off 18 today is pretty much ideal. But, again, they've ended up with Morgan and/or Russell not being there for the last five overs. Really reminds me of England this summer needing the likes of Willey, Woakes, Curran(s), Rashid to finish the innings because they've lost too many wickets up top.

They won but it does feel like they leave at least 30 runs on the field. That seems to be the big difference between KKR compared with Mumbai and Delhi. The chopping and changing of the middle order doesn't help someone like Russell who seems a bit out of knick.

I was just thinking about this. I think MS should try Jadeja at 3/4. This is my opinion, but I get the feeling he's absolutely ready for that spot.

I have been saying this much before! Jadeja is a batsman who needs to bat up and he is not really the lower order finisher anymore. We saw how he batted against SRH where he took time and then as he got into his groove, the runs started flowing out of his blade. With Raina's left handed variety missing in the top order, CSK have not shown any inclination to experiment by sending a lower order batsman up the order. Actually I would even send a guy like Karn Sharma at No. 3 or 4 if I want someone to go out there and do some pinch hitting. Karn Sharma is capable of it and the guy hits some big shots on his own.

Anyone but JADHAV!! I mean, in today's lineup, you can literally pick the 11th man in that team (Deepak Chahar or Shardul Thakur) and say that this guy could've done a much better job than Jadhav. When we have batters till No. 11 (Karn can bat, Shardul can bat, Chahar can bat), what was the need to send in an under pressure Jadhav at a time when CSK needed massive amount of runs at a required rate that was 11+. Jadhav is not a 11+ scorer by any means. It was also bad management by Fleming and co (cant fault Dhoni as he was batting in the middle) to send Jadhav out there when you need so much to score. And honestly, the guy has been a seasoned passenger in this CSK side. Everybody who's analyzing and talking on this IPL, are constantly forced to go back to only that IPL 2018 opener when Jadhav scored that six to win CSK the game. And he injured himself there and quit the tournament, and CSK won the title. And nothing of impact in IPL 2019. And here again we are! And he doesn't bowl anymore also. What is he really doing?

I think Jadhav can score 12 rpo but I agree that he's never done anything in the IPL. The problem for Chennai is a replacement India batsman. I think stability is good but you will never know something till you try it and try it for some time like CSK do. May be, it's a bit of an idea to let Curran open with Jadeja in the middle order.

Gotta love the media. They're treating holding back Narine like it was some check mate. The guy has been going at 9's at an average of 60 this IPL, sometimes failing to bowl his quota.

The game yesterday had nothing to do with great captaincy or great bowling, just daft batting. It could well be that DK was actually looking to bowl CSK out thereby using his best resources up front. Not in his wildest dreams would he have imagined that he would win the game without having to bowl CSK out.
