I think Gautham will make it to CSK but I think they like to have a backup for every spot and that's why I chose Moeen Ali. I know people think he's not a big hitter but he has a SR that's more than AB de Villiers and that is no mean feat. An off spinner was highly lacking all of last year and Moeen is also someone that can open, bat in the middle, finish and basically just has CSK written all over him
Moeen’s capabilities were never in doubt. But he hasn’t done anything notable since the last 2 years, leading to him being dropped from almost every format for England. If he can bring back that old form, he will be one of the highest picks of the auction. But who knows?

By the way, no talk about Dawid Malan? I think he’ll have a huge paycheck after the auctions, preferably KXIP breaking the bank over him.

Heard someone like Tim Seifert has been getting hype recently, I think he would be good fit as a wicketkeeper batsman to bat at 5
He’s an opening batsman, mate.

Do they need Malan? They already have Rahul, Agarwal and Gayle.

Seifert to my knowledge is at KKR. KXIP issue is not the batting. They need an allrounder and a death bowler. My guess is they're going for Morris and whoever this mystery fast bowler is that even MI have emptied the purse for.

I wrote KXIP because they have a habit of going overbudget on players they don't even need :lol

N Jagadeesan and Ruturaj Gaikwad's SMAT 2021 form has created a headache for CSK. Should Ruturaj start off IPL 2021 as our opener based on his form in the final 3 games of IPL 2020, though his SMAT 2021 form has been poor? Or should N Jagadeesan start off IPL 2021 as CSK opener based on his current SMAT 2021 form? Or should both of them open together, which means Faf Du Plessis will be pushed down to No. 3 or 4, thereby disturbing our batting balance?

What CSK will do to get their batting nucleus right in the mini auction, is going to be crucial.

MI released 4 of their 5 overseas pacers.
Only retained Boult.

So Mumbai will be looking for overseas pacers this auction. Like always.

One other slots in the overseas category is an all-rounder. May be they will buy Rutherford again if cheap?

Just imagine if MI go all out on Starc

Holy crap, Robin Uthappa has been purchased by CSK in an "all cash deal". News has been confirmed by CSK's official Twitter handle!

WTH just happened? Why the heck? I cant understand this decision at all. Except for that 91 that Uthappa scored in SMAT 2021, it was an ordinary season for him. And he had a below ordinary IPL 2020. He is 35 years old. Did they just think that they can replace Vijay with Uthappa?

I don't think so playing Starc at Wankhede could be a wise option.

Daddy army jokes are old! One extra win and CSK’s 2020 would’ve been different

Even though this season is a one off before the mega auction next year, what was the hurry to sign an all cash deal on a guy like Uthappa when they could’ve waited till auctions and got him for maybe cheaper than 3 crores?

I still feel Uthappa wont be needed. The lineup below looks solid if

  1. Ruturaj
  2. Faf
  3. Raina
  4. Overseas player - Empty due to Watson retiring
  5. Thala
  6. Jadeja
  7. Curran
  8. Bravo/Santner
  9. Shardul
  10. Chahar
  11. Karn

Honestly its impossible to predict CSK's lineup right now. We have a few big holes to fill and a clear picture will arrive only after the auction.

It's a one year deal. He's just there to be a backup to Gaikwad. Unlikely to start. It's a smart decision. I can also tell you (can take it with a pinch of salt) that Jadeja is going to be made vice captain with him to take over the reigns in 2022 and a very real likelihood to be the only player retained by CSK depending on the rules.

India Cements are very good at building a cricket team but I don't think they trade aggressively. I would have really dangled the carrot to a SRH to leave Williamson for Raina.

Obviously 1 year. But I still feel Uthappa is not worth rushing into a trade. CSK could’ve paid a crore less on him if they waited till auction.

I literally thought the same thing today. Try a “Raina for Williamson” trade. SRH would love to bolster their Indian batting in the middle overs and Raina can give an impetus there. And CSK get a leader in Williamson.

Looks like the trade window is open till Feb 4. Not sure if CSK will attempt more trades before then. The fact that this was their first ever trade in IPL history, tells us that they’re now open to changing their strategy.

I think it's a good trade considering the whole Covid thing man. I think KKR have a really small squad and if that bubble gets busted, god have mercy! I hope CSK don't automatically make Faf the default starter for the foreign player spot. They should keep things open ended and get a foreign batter that can also lean over into a new era. I think Jason Roy would be a fantastic one year option for them. Steve Smith, a more long term prospect while Moeen Ali would fit their DNA to the hilt.

@SaiSrini- Do you want to bet with me that RCB will go bananas over Jadhav, Maxwell and Starc?
