My take: Reputation givers should be visible... or reps should be disabled.

Allowing unknown idiots to insult me anonymously through reputations is ridiculous. It's not about the rep system. It's about giving these losers a chance to insult me cheaply through this system that I detest. They know that I cannot detect them.

I guess most users would agree...

I will admit that I used the anonymity to give back a few reps in return, but on the whole I would prefer people who have courage to give negative reputations after revealing their identity. Force users to give reasonable negative reputations or disable negative reps on the whole since it's supposed to be a "meaningless" light-hearted stuff anyway.

The way it's being used now, it's used for anonymous personal attacks. Not for just disagreeing or agreeing with a post.

The reps should not be made visible. The system works fine how it is, and also for genuine neg reps although I usually sign them, people should be allowed not to put their name if they don't want to.

If people are using the rep system to send you abusive remarks, report it to the mods who will punish the user/s who is/are doing it as they can track the reps.

If it is visible then a huge fight will take place and users will start neg repping each other. It should stay always invisible

This would have been a much better proposal had you not abused those who give you neg reps. It comes across as if you're on a personal crusade for revenge.

Besides, it works how it is. If someone's going to pos rep you then they'll leave their name and I'll always leave my name if I neg rep someone. Admittedly a lot of the idiots will not leave the name etc but this has only been blown out of proportion because of the whole India Australia scandal. Had it just been a normal past 2 weeks between the two sides without such a controversy then there wouldn't be a problem, and so it wouldnt need solving.

Why should idiots be given the chance to make cheap insults knowing that I cannot trace them and retort?

That's cowardly.

All the neg reps I've received so far are unsigned as I suspect it is with most people.

I do admit giving a few neg reps anonymously, but it's been in retaliation to other negative reps and usually only when I'm 99% sure who the rep-giver is... But still I'm not proud of it and I feel that I could avoid it...

At least there should be a time limit on giving negative reps to post. Maybe 24 hours...

This whole issue has been born out of something that isnt the usual. This is all because the ardent Aussie's obviously disagree with how you felt on the India- Australia issue and vica-versa. It'snot the common circumstance that these forums find themselves in. You cannot manipulate a system that has worked before just because of, for the want of a better word, a forum crisis.

That just highlights the point why they shouldn't be visible. It would just become a massive slagging match.

As I said if you have a burning issue and feel you have been wronged via reps, PM a mod

If you have an issue with particular reps received, send one of us a PM and the idiots will be dealt with. ;)

Don't take the law into your own hands for a couple of reasons:

1) it makes you as bad as them

2) you may not get the right person and will be made to look silly anyway

Though by 'one of us' it needs to be a globie or admin, as the rest of the staff don't have the ability to check it for you. I'm quite happy to be your first point of call for rep related issues.

Yes, although we'd all happily pass the message on to a greenie or red-head. If you do have a problem let us sort it, don't take the law into your own hands because it will bite you.

I post at another forum (GateWorld) and they have their reps visible and it isn't a problem. However I don't think there is enough reason to warrant reps being visible on PlanetCricket. It seems fine as it is. :)

If the the reputation system is being used for personal attacks, I'm very ashamed. There is no need for such monstrous behaviour. But as the staff have said, be warned. You aren't 'really' anonymous. :p

Muhahahahaha! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!! :D

Sorry, but if reps are made visible, we might as well disable them altogether. People will just start returning bad reps all the time. The point of reps is to reward good posting and to discourage bad posting (but it is also a bit of fun).

Reps are not meant to be given back and forth, they are meant to be based on posts only. It's not preferable to see who gave you a positive rep either because some people feel the need to return every rep either way.

As it's been said, if you feel that you've been given a rep that is offensive or abusive, simply send a PM to a global mod, or an admin. If none of them are online, a staff member can be contacted, and we will pass on the message. We will review the rep and take action against that person if required.
