Didn't know how to make the background lighter and I haven't decided

You can make it lighter by 'Brightness/Contrast' option found in image->adjustments. As you do not know much about ps, google for 'basic knowledge of photoshop' and then follow tuts. It'll surely help you to get better outcomes.
