Tour Program: MCC Cricket Tour of USA in March 2010 - Dreamcricket News

Fast forward to 2009, when a tour to North America was planned to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the 1859 tour of George Parr XI. That much anticipated tenth tour of MCC to USA was postponed and will now take place in March of 2010 (March 14-31). For the first time ever, this MCC side will not play any matches in Philadelphia, opting to play all its matches in California and Florida, endowed with better March weather and turf wickets.

How are these MCC squads picked? No professional cricketers allowed I presume?

I wish :( Florida and California are both at least 10 hour drives.

I will be going to the NZ Sri Lanka Twenty20 series if that happens though.

not all the grounds have turf wickets you know. but good teams have some really good grounds. and also not all the cities allows you to have that much of "white" area in their field (unless you buy the field which is $$). but they are fine when it comes to baseball. :sarcasm

Yea but we have 0 turf wickets in Texas. The soil here is a very soft clay and its way too expensive to maintain. The Houston West Indies club had a turf wicket for a little bit but it became lethal quickly with ridiculously inconsistent bounce so they abandoned it.

I hate playing on artificial wickets, as if the game is not slanted towards the batsman already, you don't get any truer bounce than an artificial wicket.

Also it barely moves off the pitch either so unless you swing it in the air your pretty much tweaked.

We can never have This or this

here is ours

and we have 2 batting nets on the side (that pic is old, so its not showing it ) that are artificial. so we get to practice on both kinds of wicket. so when we go play away matches in artificial pitch, we know what to expect

not just pitch, mantaining a whole ground is tweaking expensive. CRICKET is expensive. but in other places, eg Aus, Eng, the cities probably takes care of the grounds. Just like here they do it for baseball or football, or even soccer!
