Minnows XI

They stole Joyce from the minnows team. Dalyrmple was also born in Kenya. Not sure if they poached him aswell.

They both have English passports, they both have England caps therefore they are both English qualified players. When will you get that through your thick skull?

There's no such thing as an English passport, I think you mean British passport, which Joyce doesn't actually have. Joyce is clearly a poached player, there is no question there. He'd played fifty times for Ireland.

They're qualified through residence so I don't see a problem. It's not as if the ECB tied them up and lashed them with a whip or something to make sure they stayed here.

I don't see a problem, except in the case of Ed Joyce.

Lets say Sean Ervine qualifies and plays for Australia. Should he not be allowed to after playing for Zimbabwe in your view. Or should his career be ruined because of the people running the game in Zimbabwe?

They can have Dalrymple back :p

Although since he spent almost his entire life in England, received his cricketing and mental education in England, and is as English as anyone else, I think it would be fair to say he wasn't poached
Yup. Being born in a different place is one thing. Actually playing for a different team is a whole other issue...

As a rule, you shouldn't be able to switch after playing for one country. But there should obviously be exceptions for extraordinary circumstances such as the one you suggest, as judged by an independent panel.

So whats the difference between Ervine never playing at the top level (Test Cricket) with his home country and Joyce not playing at the top level (Test Cricket) with his home country?

Ervine played 5 tests

Never playing again. It's pretty obvious if you read the other post.

There is clearly a very big difference between the Ervine and Joyce situations.

Ireland cricket isnt being run by a violent racist dictator.

Of course there is a difference dimwits, but essentially they have the same problems. Both mens Careers would be stunted if they couldn't play for another country.

But Joyce was having a profilic career with Ireland, and was about to play for them in the World Cup before England came along to get him. It shouldn't be allowed. Joyce should have made up his mind early, England or Ireland.

And maybe the future of cricket in Ireland, Scotland and The Netherlands is being stunted because any class player they produce is going to be poached by England.
