My idea for the P20

I like the idea behind the P20 more than the Twenty20 Cup, and would really go to town with it. This is my idea for the P20:
  • Two divisions of 10 teams each.
  • Ireland and Scotland join the 18 first class counties for the tournament.
  • Matches take place on Friday and Saturday nights.
  • Teams play the others in their division twice per season - home and away - resulting in 18 regular season matches for each side.
  • Two points are awarded for a win, one for a no result and no points for a loss.
  • In the event of a tie a one over eliminator will decide the outcome.
  • The two teams with the most points in division 1 will qualify for the Twenty20 Champions League.
  • The bottom team in division 1 at the end of the season will be relegated to division 2 and replaced by division 2's first placed team.
  • The team with the second lowest number of points in division 1 will play the team with the second highest number of points in division 2 in a play-off with the winners playing in division 1 the following season.
  • This play-off will take place on the home ground of division 1's first placed team.

My feelings exactly. People say that the Pro40 is rubbish but still shouldn't have 2 T20 competitions to be honest. Keep a longer over league personally.

Pro40's not rubbish though. I think it actually helps our 50 over players, as they're learning to score quicker and take advantage of the early powerplays more and more. The games I find are far more entertaining. Most of the best County games I saw last season were in the Pro40. I remember 1 Ravi Bopara innings in the competition last year that was beyond excellent. Came in at 1down with over 100 on the board, and still managed to ton up before Gallian. Was an excellent innings. I really like the Pro40.

Wasn't that the game he spanked 200?

He's only scored 1 OD double ton, and that game definitely wasn't on Sky, because I remember seeing the highlights which were quite poor quality on SSN.

Cricket Archive << That's the game I remember watching. Ravi was awesome. His hundred was excellent, and then he took 4fer with the ball. Ledge.

I was hoping for discussion of the format of the P20 rather than the scheduling. But I think my format would fit if the schedule was like this:

Early May: County Championship and 50 over trophy begins
Early June: P20 begins - 50 over trophy takes break
Late June: 50 over trophy completes - P20 takes a break
Mid July: County Championship continues
Late July: Second half of P20 begins alongside County Championship
Late August: P20 play-offs - altered Pro40 begins
Mid September: County Championship completes - altered Pro40 completes

That's actually not a bad idea Lee. For once :p. I definitely agree with your point about ditching the T20 cup and keeping the Pro40. The schedule seems to make sense as well. You should get a job in the ECB ;)

Question:

Why do you guys have two 20/20 comps?

It's was never my opinion that Pro40 was rubbish it's just a lot of people I know think it's rubbish. It would be great if they scrapped the T20 Cup replacing it with the P20 and keep the Pro40.

Are you ill? Did you just give me credit!?

I quite like the idea of the first round of games starting on Saturday night with on the Friday night the division 1 champions taking on the IPL champions as a curtain raiser.
