I went into the nets prior to the first game vs South Africa. I met up with other players who play domestic cricket. Some of them were just there to have fun with their buddies. So I grabbed a cricket ball and started bowling...
I made the batsman chase the ball, and knick it. I was bowling very fast, and that pace beat the batsman more than once. I wish I would've bowled like this in the second session.
When it came my time to bat, I played some very good shots. All of the sudden I lost sight of one! It hit me straight on the back of my knee, the part that wasn't protected! I was hurt...
I limped out.. I could hardly walk properly. Right after I changed I went to show my leg to the Pakistani Physio. Lyfson, the Pakistani Phyio took a look at my leg. After a couple of tests, he declared me out of the whole series! Tests and ODI's.
Crushed, I went back to the hotel, and started to pack up things. I knew that I had to get some rest.. There was no real point staying in South Africa. It was time to go to Sussex and meet my team mates there. But I still had intentions of getting back into the national side for the next series. I wasn't out. Not by far!
3 weeks of Injury set me out of the South Africa tour, but now that I am fully fit, Its time to play cricket again! I was playing for the English county team named Sussex. Along with Rana Naved who has been a great bowler for Pakistan and Sussex. Our First game was against Gloucestershire. They had Australian Ian Harvey and the Kiwi Hamish Marshall on their team.
I was batting at four, surprised to be honest. I did bat for them in a training session, and I did good, but coming 2 down would be a greater challenge. A strong bowling side. 5 Pacers and the spin of Yardy.
We won the toss, and we decided to bat. It was cold outside! Extremely cold! So it was time to play Cricket once again, but will I be successful? Or will I fail?
With Goodwin falling before lunch, I had to come out to play 1 last over before lunch break. Big moment for me, Montgomerie was standing firm on the other end. He was past 50 now.
This has to be my favorite shot on spinners! I've played it in 3 innings in a row, with ease too! This time it would only be a single. The only run I would get before the Lunch break.
Finally, I broke through! 2 Fours to my name as I was getting confident! The First though was more of an edge. The second was a great front foot drive. Montgomerie had gotten out for 74, which had left me with Adams who was still adjusting to the conditions.
I tried to play a cover drive to one coming in. I missed it. A big appeal went up from the bowler, but I knew it couldn't be out.. Or could it? The Umpire raised his finger, and I was shocked. My stride was pretty long and the ball pitched and turned far too much! I don't know what the Umpire saw.
You can see where the ball pitched, and where it hit me. The bowler was an off-spinner too! Oh god, I really don't have much luck with this game do I?
