Right well many people have started one and once again I'm here to join the band wagon. So far I have only played 4 games, I missed the first 5 weeks of the season due to basically having thumb re-construction. I had a complete break of my thumb and it was put into a cast, two weeks later I went back to have it x rayed and the top bone in my thumb and basically fallen out of place, I had to have emergency surgery to get this back into place. This left me with a hefty 6 week sideline which meant missing 5 weeks of the season :(. But now here I am playing the sport I love once again every Saturday and Sunday. I will try and keep you up to date with the few games that I actually manage to play and will possibly try to get some videos or pictures of me playing.

I am keeping a complete list of my stats as the season progresses and so far they look something like this.

Batting which gives my stats as game by game, who for and who against with the dates and how I so I can keep track of how I'm getting out.

Game by Game

3rd XI vs Shalford
My first game for just under a year and without having played for nearly 10 weeks I was sceptical as to how it would go, it went alright for my first game back I reckon. It's fair to say I probably sprayed it about a bit and they also attacked me, but the fielding with it being a 3rd XI is not of a very high quality playing with a lot of oldeys so I will always expect my economy to be high for the 3's. My two wickets were absolute beauty's! My first wicket shows just how well I can bowl, pitched on a good length the guy goes to defend the ball and it just seams off the pitch catches the outside edge and gets caught behind, the ball a seamer dreams of! My other wicket was a guy who was hitting out bowled him a slower ball which took the pace right off and he got bowled. He misses, I hit. My friend was watching and apparently when this guy got back to the changing room he was fuming. All in all I enjoyed my first game back and relished the opportunity for more cricket to come!

My batting didn't last very long with one off 3 balls. Got off the mark off my first ball but then last years technique came back to haunt me, where I shuffled across my stumps and I was plumb LBW :(. With it being my first time with my pads on for 10 weeks as well I couldn't really complain.

3rd XI vs Grayshott
A very hit and miss game to say the least! After a promising spell against Shalford the skipper opened the bowling with me and as per usual I hit my straps straight away, I tend to get a bit of swing on the ball which causes a lot of the batsmen to have swing but they then miss, One of my wickets was an absolutely plum LBW and I can't remember how I got my 1st wicket as it's not up on play cricket! But I ended my first over and it was a double wicket maiden! Fair to say it was a good choice to open with me then. I bowled a nice 3 over spell and had gone for around 15. I came back on in the 39th to bowl a 5 over spell to finish and my 4th over went for just 4 taking my figures to 2-19 off 4. Then disaster struck, everything went wrong and I just couldn't pitch the ball, no matter how hard I tried the damn red ball just wouldn't hit the pitch, I ended up pitching two balls and they both went for 4 aswell. My 8 ball over went for 29 and its probably fair to say cost us the win, I was baffled and bemused at how it had happened and it totally ruined my figures!

After my 1 In my first game I was moved down to 11 which I thought was rather harsh as I am actually quite a good batsmen! I ended up needing to come into the end and having to bat out for the draw, I faced 7 balls and was fine with all of it. The Sunday captain was at the other end and questioned the 3rds captain as to why I was batting so low because I could quite clearly bat! It was a very odd game and I ended just laughing at it all.

School vs Dulwhich
My 3rd Game back and my First for school of the season, I'm only going to be able to play 2 games for them as we only have one fixture left. Now this was a very close game and one I really enjoyed playing in! We batted first and such as life for school I was batting down at number 10. I have grown custom to this over the past few years. We were playing 30 overs and after a good start we collapsed, I came in with the score 101-8 with 12 overs left and knew I would have to try and be the senior batsmen and see us as close to the end as well, just 2 runs later and it was 103-9. Now our number 11 is not the best batsmen in the world but he can sort of hold the bat. We batted for the next 10 overs and put on 35 for the last wicket until he got himself caught, in all fairness to him he batted very well and he did most of the scoring whilst I tried to make us stay there for as a long as possible. We ended up being all out in the 28th with 2 overs to go. Which I thought was a very good effort, but when I got back people questioned what I was doing padding the spinner and such which disheartened me as if I had gone in and got out first ball then they all would have been saying what were you doing getting out like that. So the opposition had to chase 141 to win.

I came on in the same over I went out to bat :p. The 18th at this stage they were slightly cruising at 80-5 with our number 11 taking the first 3 wickets so he was having a fine day! The two batsmen were just getting settled and with them only having 10 men we only needed 4 more wickets, my first few overs I managed to contain them well and then I picked up a wicket with my slower ball, I bowl it like Ian Pont’s slob and I was delighted to get a wicket with it and then all of a sudden we were back in with a chance at the other end the other bowler picked up a wicket and we were left needing two wickets until their coach told us they had got there 11th player in, so he came in next. He was quite clearly a big hitting batsmen after he took a swipe at his first ball to get a single to face me. I knew it was crucial to get him and he had a swing and a miss at the first ball. The second ball I bowled to him was the delivery I call ‘variation’ It is a big change to my usual action where I don’t bowl with a front arm and only use my bowling arm. It bowled him and I was absolutely delighted! We then knew we had pretty much won the game and we ended up winning by 8 runs!

Sunday vs Streatham and Marlborough
My first Sunday game of the season and won we lost quite convincingly. We started off well and with the Sunday captain knowing I could bat he sent me in at 4, after good start I was in with 22 overs ago in a 40 over game, (something about me and the 18th over eh?) I was playing very nicely and got 11 but then there spinner called Mendis got me out, he lives two houses away from Ajantha in Sri Lanka and also plays for the same club as him in Sri Lanka. He was a very quick spinner and he bowled me one down legside and I gloved it behind, I then walked knowing I was out and their players applauded me walking saying not many people do that these days. We ended up all out for about 150.

I opened the bowling again and bowled a fairly nice spell, picking up another two wickets. My first one was a guy trying to attack my slower ball and being caught my second was a Yorker which bowled him off his toes. A bit more spraying it about after I got tired but all in all a fairly good day’s cricket even though we lost.

I now have two matches coming up this weekend a school match on Saturday and then another Sunday Game.

Another school game on Saturday saw us get trounced :p we got about 134 all out off our 35 overs, which to be fair was a good come back after at one stage being 25-5! Lower order made to do the work once again one guy made a cracking 36, got the reverse sweep out, he told us when he got back that he was chatting to the keeper said if he moved the point round would he play the reverse sweep, so he said yead and he did it, was a gorgeous reverse sweep and it went all the way for 4. I had a cameo knock of 17 hitting 3 4's, one edge behind and two pulls, I had a good battle with one of the bowlers I was moving around the crease a bit and pissing him off, went to play the scoop shot and got hit on the leg that gave me a nice shiner! I was out caught behind but I spoke to the bowler after our innings and he told me it wasn't out but he saw the keeper go up and wanting to get rid of me he went up as well and there umpire gave me out. Fair to say I then didn't go against the spirit of cricket.. oops.

Bowling was very mixed, took me two overs to hit my straps and again carried on my knack of picking up 2 wickets a game, my two wickets were possible two of the worst balls I think I have ever bowled. I have developed this knack of picking up a lot of outswing, one ball started outside off stump and went wider, the guy got a nick behind and he was out. The other was a lefty and the same thing happened but he just cut it straight into the hands of point. Fair to say I didn't deserve those wickets but I'll take them anyway! In between whiles I did bowl some jaffas with my out swingers!

They managed to get our score in about 13 overs, I joked with our team that it was a good thing they didnt bat first otherwise we would have been going home a lot later!
