Hi all! Does anyone know of any good, easy books on opening the batting? In the nets I have been asked to look to that as a role next season and I don't know where to start! help!
Okay, I used to be a county age-group opening bat, but I was terrible. Point is, there are a few key skills that you need as an opener which I had enough of to get selected, but not to retain my place:
Judgement - always know where your off-stump is
Patience - always be willing to wait for the bad ball
Ingenuity - when you get the good balls, be able to push them for ones and twos (leg glance, late cut, etc)
Release - you need a clutch shot. For me, it's the cover drive, for Alastair Cook it's the cut - just make sure you have one shot you can back yourself to hit
