Ponting pays for gamble
(Misbah reaches fifty)​

The crowd roared as Afridi got off the mark. Captain Ponting knew it was only a matter of time before Afridi would explode. James Hopes started his final over. Unfortunately for him his final over was expensive as it went for 12 runs. All Pakistan could hope was that Afridi could get going and quick because with the current run rate, Pakistan would struggle to reach 230. On his last ball of his 10 over spell Hopes got the line wrong and Misbah who was seeing the ball as a football already guided it down to fine-leg where he brought up his 5th boundary and more importantly his fifty.

I.Chapell: Chase for Johnson but the ball trickles away over the boundary and that's fifty to Misbah-ul-Haq. Its been a great knock so far with 5 fours. He has truly played a captain's knock.

The crowd also clapped to acknowledge his half-century. But he knew the job was far from done. Then Captain Ricky Ponting had an idea. Knowing Cameron White had bowled out, he decided to bring on Vice-Captain Michael Clarke hoping that Afridi would pop the ball in the air. Ponting knew it was a gamble and he knew that if Afridi was to get going, the Australians would be in deep trouble.

The gamble went in favour of Pakistan as Misbah and Afridi lashed out at some poor bowling. Ponting had instructed Clarke to bowl quick cutters and leave flight alone. But Afridi was picking the ball really well as the crowd erupted.
T.Greig: Thats in the air again that's 6 ohhh.... that's going on the roof! Shahid Afridi has decided to lash out and Ponting is not looking a happy man.

Afridi was looking unstoppable and has raced onto 45 in no time. Now Pakistan are in a position where at this current stage can reach 300 regardless weather Afridi stays or not.
