South Africa coach Mickey Arthur has criticised the ?below par? pitch and facilities provided for the third and final Test in Kanpur, saying that his team deserved to be treated better. ?We are a major cricketing power, so we should get good venues and facilities. But Kanpur, to our disappointment, was way below par in everything. It was a poor cricket wicket, though I can understand the reason behind it,? Arthur told Cricinfo.

?But the practice facilities and the accommodation left a lot to be desired for an international venue,? he said three days after South Africa lost the match by eight wickets to draw the series 1-1.

Now If you listen Officials then

Now Most Stupid part of the Story,
Dhoni rewards Kanpur Test pitch curator
A grateful Mahendra Singh Dhoni sent a note of thanks and Rs 10,000 to Green Park stadium's pitch curator for preparing the turning track that helped the hosts clinch the series-levelling win over South Africa in the third Test here.

PS:So Now Great Dhoni has awarded him rather than ask for better Pitches from BCCI.
So It has proved again that all that he cares for victory under his name where He should more concerned about Indian Cricket and Should have ask to make Good Test Pitches.
So accordingly,
Dhoni's rate card:

For curators who make India win in 5 days: 5000
For curators who make India win in 4 days: 8000
For curators who make India win in 3 days: 10,000
For curators who make India win in 2 days: 25,000

For umpires who make India win in 5 days: 10000
For umpires who make India win in 4 days: 15000
For umpires who make India win in 3 days: 25000
For umpires who make India win in 2 days: 1,00,000 plus 1 year pack of Brylcream

So if you prepare poor wickets you get rewarded from the home captain? Doesn't seem right to me.

Giving tips to the curator after every match has been a practice by the home team captain and the whole team. The whole teams collects money and gives it to the home curator. The team did it at Ahmedabad too.

this time, Dhoni has personally delivered it to this curator and it has made news. why doesnt the media leave dhoni alone? dhoni doesnt need these doctored wins to prove that he is a brave and good captain.

I have no problem in complimenting the curator but giving him money. Don't curators already get paid already?

what is it with micky arthur ??

every team IMO has the right to prepare pitches which suit their
home team....! ask him whether he has ever heard of the term home advantage ??

the 2nd test was like a south african pitch and we were clueless in the
first innings...but did we go on whining about it ???

its just like australia has their share of home advantage i.e perth/pace and bounce....

Mickey Arthur can suck my wang. The whole point of touring other countries is to be able to play in other conditions. It's not our fault that the Proteas aren't good against the turning ball on a pitch that turns facing quality spinners---we saw that the Indians did not have too much trouble batting on it. Maybe they should make those pitches at home so that they can get used to playing in those conditions.

And I don't buy the whole 5-day cricket is always better argument. There have been plenty of thrilling 3-day encounters. Sure, it's all hunky-dory when a match lasts 5 days but that should hardly be the barometer for a good Test match.

When we (me and Kev) were at Lord's we were told that curators have a guideline to make the pitch last 5-days, having a game finish in 3 days is a commercial disaster.

I really don't like the idea of the home captain giving the curator money. They get paid anyway, being paid 'tips' by the home captain leaves scope for misdemeanour's.

Well, a line must be drawn between commercialism and the actual cricket. Like I said, there have been plenty of exciting games finishing in 3 days, as well as many draws because of dead pitches since curators couldn't get the balance right.

I doubt curators get paid very much, anyway. But I believe saisrini80's comments are on the dot. It obviously doesn't have too much of an effect on anything because you just found out about it now due to strange circumstances, whereas it seems like they have been doing it for a while.

I loved the pitch. We need pitches like this in every test match in India. Let foreign teams play on real sub continent tracks. India never gets fether beds when they tour abroad. I remember last time we went to NZ we were playing on green grass rather than pitches.

P1: If I had it my way, Sohum. Then the pitches would all be about the Cricket, I think the best games are ones where each type of player can have a good game if they bowl well. The point I was alluding to was that the curator's know they need a pitch that will last 5 days. Okay, they can't be at fault for poor batting, but I don't think pitch deterioration should be happening till mid-late day 3. Excluding poor weather, it shouldn't be difficult for a curator to prepare a pitch that does that.

P2: I wonder if this happens in other countries? It just strikes me as odd, because I'd have thought that countries would throw up a huff about it.

Are we really heading to Globalisation of Cricket by T20??
I doubt We don't.

It's really part of the foreign conditions. The point you made was that a 5-day pitch should be made for commercial reasons. I believe that if there were two subcontinental sides playing out there, the match would have gone to at least the 4th day. The Indian tour had always been hard because of the harsh weather and dustbowls--and they should keep it like that because we have not seen other countries let up on preparing pitches that suit their players.

Probably not. But if you look at it, it's nothing more than gratuity. When you go to a restaurant and give the waiter a tip, do all the customers look at you angrily knowing that you will probably get better service next time?

Huh?
