Poor performance by the Proteas both with the bat and the ball.

Wouldn't read too much into it. Don't think the proteas would use 8 bowlers ever in the real matches. Both Steyn and Amla were also rested, makes a big difference.

NZ would have probably lost to zim before the rain came in their previous warmup game and sri lanka did lose to zim so don't think we should read too much into these results.

South Africa are ridiculously thin: their first team players are some of the best in the world, but as soon as you get out of that first XI the quality begins to fall far. That's their main weakness, they can't really do a whole lot of rotation

A lot of the squad players aren't the second or even third best in the country. They get picked to meet certain targets and keep the politico's happy. There are quite a few talented players who aren't in this squad due to certain issues...
