----------

So what do we have here? Steyn and Smith are back from their injury breaks while Kallis is ignored from the ODI squad. AB is the skipper of the ODI team as well. Clearly, CSA are looking to build a team for the future. Nice move this. de Kock is the man I will be waiting to watch play against Pakistan.

Ok well the obvious Proteas quota selection in this tour look like:

Test - Klienvelt for Kyle Abbot or Morris & possibly Tsolekile for De Kock

ODI - Definitely Parnell for Morris - utter madness this one.

I think off-spinner Simon Harmer who has been performing in A-team matches is unlucky not to make either of these squads also.

Good to see Philander back in the ODI set-up, looked more than a test specialist during the Caribbean Premier League.

Given this was a massacre site of the former no 1 team in the hands of the same challengers, it would be interesting to see how south africa fares. My prediction 2-0 to south africa

Pakistan v South Africa 2013-14 : Amla, Steyn return to South Africa's T20 squad | Cricket News | Pakistan v South Africa | ESPN Cricinfo

Ha based on what evidence is Amla a world class T20 player? Amla style is not not suited in T20 - he is the proteas version of Michael Clarke and Alastair cook - simply a ODI/T20 player. He was totally out of his when he played in the T20 world cup - he wasn't the same that we see in tests/ODIs.

Until he can prove his T20 credentials, his pick can be interpreted again as an unfortunate quota selection - Colin Ingram should have been picked.

Similarly as well Parnell is continuously picked based on that policy. Surely Chris Morris is a better all-rounder choice than him. Also where is Robin Peterson?.

I'd be over the moon if we managed to keep it 0-0.Recent form of our team is so pathetic that i am afraid we might have a whitewash.Remember SA aren't Eng when it comes to play spin.I'd give chance to Shan Masood instead of Ahmad Shehzad as the partner of Manzoor.I think we lack a good 3rd seamer in this squad.Haven't been following Pakistan's domestic cricket lately so can't say who should be in the team inplace of Rahat Ali.Wahab Riaz might have been a better choice than him ATM.

Pakistan were doing very, very well in tests with the partnership between Misbah and Khan but ever since Whatmore has come into the set up, Pakistan have often looked hopeless.

The test squad is lacking too and the team selection for today, this new guy as opener? For such a big series? And they have only 4 bowlers and I don't see a single all rounder in there. Bad bad bad

I never quite get the logic behind pakistans selections. I am glad Manzoor is back in the team, though I never understood why he was even dropped. Last I remember of him were pakistan being dire in australia and the poor bloke toiling away for hours to slavage something with no support and then for no reason being turfed out the squad.
