Spinners United CCC - Starting to make their way

Spinners United are now into their 3rd season with coach Chez, and the team have come a long way since then. Some clever signings, good coaching and hard work has started to pay dividends. From their humble beginnings at the bottom of the league, and their Planetcricket Battrick League and Shield groups, the team is now looking like a decent outfit. Although they had a bad start to the season, 5 consecutive wins recently has the team spirit higher than ever.

After some games this season, the team lie a slightly disappointing 5th in the league and 9th in the Planetcricket Battrick Championship

The Squad
1. Tim Riaan - 25 yo, BT Rating=9,931
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A steady player with feeble leadership skills and feeble experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: mediocre Concentration: competent
Bowling: respectable Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: woeful

An original United player, and the star of the team for a long time with bat and ball. Bats solidly in the middle order at 6 and currently opens the bowling. Having a career total of 52 wickets and a batting average of 30 he is a more then capable allrounder.

3. Malcolm Chuguel - 30 yo, BT Rating=4,502
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A destructive player with strong leadership skills and mediocre experience.
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: feeble
Bowling: woeful Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: woeful

Another one of the United originals and the only captain the club has had. He opened the batting for most of his career, although recently he has moved down to 4. He has proved his ability with his high score of 176* and this season he has racked up the runs at a blistering strike rate of 110.

4. Christopher Duncum - 24 yo, BT Rating=4,710
RH Batsman, RF Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A destructive player with competent leadership skills and feeble experience.
Stamina: abysmal Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: competent
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: feeble

Duncum has proved himself to be a consistant and calm face in the team, and has been with the club since its formation. Originally opened with Chuguel, although now he enjoys his role at 3. Although he has never played a huge knock, he has reached 50 in almost half of his innings.

5. Anil Chinthaka - 22 yo, BT Rating=6,223
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with mediocre leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: respectable Concentration: competent
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: feeble

Anil has burst into one of the teams best players since being bought from hatteklubben in May, where he never played a game. He has become a terrific opener, with a staggering career average of 85. This season he has shown that he is capable of being one of the best in the league with 5 consecutive knocks of 50+ including 2 100s.

6. Ryan Challinor - 21 yo, BT Rating=8,012
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with respectable leadership skills and woeful experience.
Stamina: worthless Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: strong Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Fielding: worthless

Challinor has batted some great knocks for the team, and is another player that has come out of the original side. He has batted 3 for most of his career, but recently has been experimented with as an opener. Another consistant performer, who the team can rely on to help form a match winning partnership.

7. Ben Mcdonagh - 22 yo, BT Rating=6,311
RH Batsman, RF Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with proficient leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: abysmal
Batting: respectable Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: woeful Consistency: competent
Fielding: woeful

A former Briggs Bullet, Mcdonagh has become a fixture in the batting line-up. He is a reliable middle order batsmen, who usually comes in at 5. He has the ability to hang around and score vital runs for the team if the top order does not perform.

8. Wes Nedd - 23 yo, BT Rating=8,121
LH Batsman, RM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A destructive player with strong leadership skills and feeble experience.
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: abysmal Concentration: feeble
Bowling: respectable Consistency: competent
Fielding: mediocre

Nedd is one of the club's most recent acquisitions, and cost a touch over 100,000. But he has more than repayed that with his clever bowling, and excellent swinging of the ball. With 6 career 5fors and a career average of 14, he is a real force in the bowling line-up.

9. George Levy - 26 yo, BT Rating=4,088
LH Batsman, LF Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A defensive player with abysmal leadership skills and woeful experience.
Stamina: feeble Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: abysmal Concentration: feeble
Bowling: competent Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: woeful

Has always been a major part of the team, although recently has lacked the fitness to play. He has been in the only opening bowling partnership the team has used as a regular unit, alongside Riaan. His fast bowling has been a great wicket taking option in the past, and it is certain that he will continue to be a force in the future.

10. Horace Charl - 27 yo, BT Rating=5,000
LH Batsman, LF Bowler, strong batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A steady player with strong leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: abysmal Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: mediocre Consistency: woeful
Fielding: mediocre

Although he has been in the team for a long time, it has only been recently that he has played regularly due to Levy's fitness. While he has played he has provided good cover in opening the bowling.

11. Allan Pead - 18 yo, BT Rating=6,917
LH Batsman, LH Spin Bowler, strong batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with strong leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: worthless Wicket Keeping: respectable
Batting: respectable Concentration: woeful
Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Fielding: feeble

A product of the academy at SUCC, the youngster has proven he his a great batting and Wicket keeping option. He normally bats down at 8. Although he has had a lack of form recently, it is certain he will come back and prove his ability.

12. Leon Harding - 22 yo, BT Rating=6,551
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A destructive player with mediocre leadership skills and woeful experience.
Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: worthless
Bowling: competent Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: competent

Although he has always been in the team, it is only after some intensive training that he has become the good player he is now. He has become a regular starter at 7, and his bowling has contributed well to the team's progress. He is very economical with the ball, and contributes handy runs down the order.

13. Al Antonius - 19 yo, BT Rating=2,877
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, respectable batting form, abysmal bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with mediocre leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: abysmal Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: respectable Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: worthless Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: worthless

Last season, the academy player started regularly, but in the ever developing squad he has been left behind in the reserves now. He is a solid middle order batsman who was adept at knocking vital runs at the end of an innings.

14. Joe Esaia - 30 yo, BT Rating=1,911
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, worthless batting form, woeful bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with proficient leadership skills and woeful experience.
Stamina: abysmal Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: respectable Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: abysmal

After being bought for a cheap price, Esaia is now out of favour despite his performances for much of last season, where he played big innings at 4.

15. Titus Mackin - 19 yo, BT Rating=2,188
LH Batsman, LH Spin Bowler, worthless batting form, worthless bowling form, sublime
A destructive player with respectable leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: worthless Concentration: worthless
Bowling: respectable Consistency: worthless
Fielding: worthless

One of the 2 talented spinners the academy has produced, Mackin was a major force in the team after his promotion to the main squad, but has recently been overtaken by the other spin talent, Kelly Slaytor.

16. Andrew Holme - 21 yo, BT Rating=3,530
LH Batsman, LFM Bowler, worthless batting form, worthless bowling form, sublime
A defensive player with mediocre leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: respectable Wicket Keeping: mediocre
Batting: abysmal Concentration: woeful
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: mediocre

Holme was the leading Wicket Keeper in the team for a long time and played in the first 2 seasons as the regular keeper. Now he has become the FC keeper, more skilled with the gloves and with more stamina.

17. Franky Banks - 19 yo, BT Rating=1,729
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, worthless batting form, worthless bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with competent leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: worthless Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: feeble
Bowling: mediocre Consistency: worthless
Fielding: worthless

Banks was the teams second allrounder for a long time, and also was used in rotation with Harding, but now has has been over shadowed and is kept as backup to the team.

18. Brad Reade - 29 yo, BT Rating=2,864
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, abysmal batting form, proficient bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with respectable leadership skills and mediocre experience.
Stamina: abysmal Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: feeble
Bowling: mediocre Consistency: woeful
Fielding: woeful

After being bought in by the club, a string of poor performances sealed his fate and he is now looking towards the exit.

19. Thomas Gustav - 21 yo, BT Rating=3,192
LH Batsman, LF Bowler, worthless batting form, respectable bowling form, sublime
A defensive player with woeful leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: mediocre Concentration: competent
Bowling: woeful Consistency: worthless
Fielding: feeble

The academy player has been a team batter, but now he has been left behind by the increasing skill of the batters and serves a backup role

20. Kelly Slaytor - 21 yo, BT Rating=8,286
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A steady player with mediocre leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: respectable Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: worthless Concentration: worthless
Bowling: respectable Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: worthless

Slaytor is the second of the clubs spin talents, and has recently broken into the team. The talented bowler has taken 5 wickets in his 2 competetive matches, at an average of just 7. Many believe him to be the bowling future of the club.

21. Glenn Mccormick - 18 yo, BT Rating=6,206
LH Batsman, LM Bowler, superb batting form, respectable bowling form, sublime
A steady player with worthless leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: respectable Wicket Keeping: abysmal
Batting: competent Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Fielding: worthless

At just 18, Glenn is touted to become the batting force of United. Although he is yet to make his debut, many say he is very close.

22. Daniel Botham - 21 yo, BT Rating=3,186
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, worthless batting form, worthless bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with respectable leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: competent Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: mediocre Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: woeful Consistency: worthless
Fielding: mediocre

Another academy player, Botham has not lived up to his name and appears to be heading towards the cricketing firing squad.

23. Jeff Searle - 22 yo, BT Rating=3,765
LH Batsman, LF Bowler, competent batting form, worthless bowling form, sublime
An attacking player with abysmal leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: abysmal Wicket Keeping: proficient
Batting: abysmal Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: feeble
Fielding: woeful

Despite being the best player with the gloves in the side, Searle's lack of runs has meant he has not been involved in the first team

24. Daniel Blair - 21 yo, BT Rating=4,040
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, sublime
A cautious player with proficient leadership skills and abysmal experience.
Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: mediocre Concentration: abysmal
Bowling: competent Consistency: woeful
Fielding: worthless

The all rounder who looks to Riaan as his inspiration, Blair hasn't reached that ability yet. Although he is a good all rounder, his lack of other skills has seen him fail to follow in his heroes footsteps.

25. Dirk Britton - 19 yo, BT Rating=2,941
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, respectable batting form, feeble bowling form, sublime
A steady player with superb leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: feeble Concentration: mediocre
Bowling: worthless Consistency: worthless
Fielding: abysmal

The youngster, despite being full of beans, has no real skill beyond that, and therefore has been unable to make an impact.

United Boss to make big changes

Tonight Chez Spin, coach of the Spinners United CCC, announced that he will be making some big changes to the team and declared that he wants to sell the following players:

Jeff Searle
Andrew Holme
Dirk Britton
Franky Banks
Daniel Blair
Brad Reade
Daniel Botham

They are all for sale for best offer.

There have been no player reactions so far, an insider told us that this is because nobody wants to be next in the cuts.

Hmm, yet another Battrick story... Hopefully this will last and surpass the TT Lions in most updates :)

Looking at your squad, you have some decent players but most of them lack stamina and secondaries. Is that really "sensible spending"?

And Glenn McCormick! I was definetely going for him at some point...

Thanks for the headsup on the sale. Will be having a look at one of them.

Nothing will surpass my thread for most updates. Do you realize how boring doing a story on BT gets? :p

@embi - The ones who make up my starting line up mostly have a decent secondary, although I realise that my other players are pretty rubbish :p

Nice to see that now I have done this there are a few Battrick stories back at the top of this forum

That acronym sums your team up nicely, doesn't it Spinster? :p

Joke mate, you've got some decent players in there. I wouldn't say no to Nedd especially, you picked up a real bargain there.

I thought when I was typing it that it was a bit funny :p

Thanks for the tip on Nedd, he is a real performer now.

This Season so far

10/9/06 Cup - Round 1
Three Stumps v Spinners United CCC

Spinners United 168 (38.0)
Challinor 53
Gordon 4-28

Three Stumps 170-1 (34.2)
Antonius 75*
Nedd 1-36

Three Stumps win by 9 wickets

Thoughts: Although a VI side, I wasn't too disapointed because they were stronger than us and it gives us the chance to choose our own friendlies.

15/9/06 League Match
PainKillers v Spinners United CCC

Painkillers 256 (49.3)
Mohau 106
Riaan 4-40

Spinners United 170 (39.0)
Chinthaka 93*
Tunnicliffe 5-31

Painkillers win by 86 runs

Thoughts: A bad start to the season really, we could have won this match and we must if we want to avoid a relegatoin playoff.

22/9/06 League Match
Spinners United CCC v M.J.B.

Spinners United 110 (29.4)
Chinthaka 34
Van Zyl 3-10

M.J.B. 111-3 (31.0)
Van Zyl 57*
Riaan 2-21

M.J.B. won by 7 wickets

Thoughts: Another important match lost, the bowlers did all they could to try and win, but the batters had left too much to do.

29/9/06 League Match
Wigan Pathetic v Spinners United CCC

Wigan Pathetic 241 (48.3)
Mead 130
Charl 3-49

Spinners United 136 (39.2)
Chinthaka 73
Roach 5-28

Wigan Pathetic won by 95 runs

Thoughts: Another terrific bowling performance let down by the batters.
This team's batters have obliterated everyone in the league, so there was a plus to this game.

1/10/06 Friendly
Jamie5000231 v Spinners United CCC

Jamie5000231 130 (40.2)
Bradshaw 52
Nedd 3-33

Spinners United 131-2 (23.3)

Chinthaka 144*
Hughes 1-61

Time Lords 93 (26.5)
Phiwokwakhe 42
Charl 4-17

Spinners United won by 232 runs

Thoughts: Just what we needed. Terriffic batting from Chinthaka, and the bowlers had nothing to do really. Great stuff!

13/10/06 League Match
Spinners United CCC v Ruff_Ryders919

Spinners United 288-8
Chuguel 94
Hankin 5-47

Ruff Ryders 215 (47.5)
Bolland 47
Slaytor 3-31

Spinners United won by 73 runs

Thoughts: We showed that even if we lose wickets, we can still set a decent total, and some more good bowling helped as well, with debutant Slaytor playing well also.

15/10/06 Friendly
Spinners United CCC v Challengers XI

Spinners United 153 (41.2)
Chinthaka 63
Iffil 4-29

Challengers XI 136 (40.4)
Kekeletso 53
Riaan 3-30

Spinners United won by 17 runs

Thoughts: A close, low scoring game, with our pitch proving to be bowler friendly. The batters went and got just enough, and the bowlers got them quick enough. A good win over the Planetcricket rivals to make it 3 from 3 against them

20/10/06 League Match
Jamie5000231 v Spinners United CCC

Spinners United 322-6
Mcdonagh 77
Yate 2-38

Jamie5000231 69 (20.4)
Riaan 32
Nedd 4-19

Spinners United won by 253 runs

Thoughts: Another win over Jamie after the win against them in a friendly, big batting scores from a number of them and some good bowling, we really showed how we can play

Match Preview
22/10/06 Friendly
Spinners United CCC vs Briggs Bullets

This match is just a game to see how we do, and I don't expect us to win over the superior side of Briggsey. The pitch is uneven and it is Sunny, so the bowlers will have the advantage. The Spinners United line up will be:

Challinor
Chinthaka
Duncum
Chuguel (*)
Mcdonagh
Riaan
Harding
Pead (+)
Nedd
Slaytor
Levy

Match Report

Spinners United vs. Briggs Bullets @ Spin Arena

Spinners United CCC won the toss and elected to bat.

Spinners United 177 (45.5)
Riaan 43*
Chuguel 35
Chinthaka 31

Pickford 4-31
Forbes 2-37
Cockerill 2-38

Briggs Bullets 179-1 (28.3)
Ainsworth 116*
Ali 53
Moodley 9*

Harding 1-10
Levy 0-28
Nedd 0-33

Briggs Bullets won by 9 wickets

Comments: Although I expected to lose convincingly, I hoped we would do better, especially on the bowling front. Despite losing regular wickets, a few batters scored runs, which was promising. The bowlers couldn't really contend with the openers, although Harding played very well, good economy and the wicket of Ali. Overall, despite the loss, the team showed promise, though to catch up to the better Planetcricket teams there is still a way to go.
