Lets see how Ganguly goes bowling in the test arena. The Ranji trophy won't come close to international standards.
But Ganguly does deserve this one last chance to have his dream farewell.

I would disagree with that. Ranji trophy isn't that bad afterall and prepares you well for the international standard. Doing well in Ranji trophy is definitely a boost for Ganguly.

Samuels got 5 wickets against a domestic side. Against Aus he didn't look like getting one. That is my point about the levels being different. Aus have the best domestic comp around yet players performing well there don't always bring that up to the next level.

Bowling especially is one where you can't judge until you hit the international level.

but at least you can use it as a platform to judge which players to select!

Obviously its good for selection but Ganguly has been on the International stage for ages. We know he isn't going to be an all rounder. But lets see if he can prove me wrong

I have this strange feeling Ganguly is going to be a better batsman now that he isn't the captain. It'll be interesting to see how he fares.

Ganguly is still a class batsmen. You don't lose that over night.
I agree that he probably will bat a lot better as now the whole of India aren't on his back about his average captaincy.

Yes i have this feeling too. He hit a sparkeling 50 in sri lanka....

I think he should be given a shot at the 3,4,5 slots. opening isn't his cup of tea anymore.

This shouild be a cracker ( got it from cricinfo...)

Muralitharan targets Tendulkar in Tests

AFP

November 23, 2005

Muttiah Muralitharan, Sri Lanka's spin wizard, says he wants to have a go at star batsman Sachin Tendulkar during the Test series in India starting on December 2.

"Sachin is the best batsman in the world along with Brian Lara and it is always a big task when you play against them," Muralitharan, who has 568 wickets in 96 matches since his debut in 1992, said before the team's departure for the three-match series. "I enjoyed the battle in the recent one-dayers but the Tests are the ultimate challenge."

Sri Lanka were thrashed 6-1 by India in the one-day series earlier this month with Muralitharan missing the last two matches because of a hamstring injury. "It is unfortunate that we have not played a Test series in India since 1997 and I have not bowled to Sachin in a five-day match since then," said Muralitharan. "I was looking forward to bowling to him when India toured Sri Lanka in 2001, but Sachin couldn't make the trip due to injury. I am really pumped up for the series ahead."

Muralitharan, Test cricket's second most successful bowler behind Australian Shane Warne, is one of only three players in the squad to have played a Test in India before. Chaminda Vaas, the left-arm fast bowler and Marvan Atapattu, Sri Lanka's captain, are the other two. "India used to depend a lot on Sachin but now there are others like Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman who have a proven record and it is going to be a tough series for us," he said. "We have never won a Test in India so our focus is on setting the record straight. Our side has a lot of experience and if we play to potential we can win this time."

The spinner cautioned it would not be easy to dominate Indian batsmen, who are good players of spin bowling. "It is funny to notice that most spinners like to go to India but many of them don't perform well there. We will really need to work hard and learn to be patient," he said.

The Sri Lankan squad includes two other slow bowlers in the uncapped left-arm spinner Sajeeva Weerakoon and leg-spinner Malinga Bandara. The first Test will be played at Chennai from December 2-6, followed by the second in New Delhi (Dec 10-14) and the third in Kanpur (Dec 18-22).

That 51 against Sri Lanka wasnt exactly sparkling!

Superb news for Ganguly fans: Ganguly follows up his 5 wicket haul with a superb 81* to lead Maharashtra fightback on Day 2

I am very happy! When he is in good form, I prefer him over anyone else, except Sachin Tendulkar!

I agree with aussie1st that he need not necessarily do that good in intl. cricket. but at least he will be in full flow when he gets started for the first test against sri lanka in Chennai (the next 5 days in Chennai is forecasted to have superb sunny weather! lets hope it extends till Dec 6th till the test finishes)

It will be a highly confidence boosting when you do well in domestic before international. He must be under alot of pressure to perform here after all those recent happenings. Lets see how Ganguly replies in the test series. Good Luck Ganguly.

Good news for Indian fans with ganguly not leading. He can concentrate on his batting. Im predicting 3-0 or at least 2-0 in india's favour.
