Interview

Sri Lanka's Coach John Dyson was interviewed yesterday about the up and coming test series.

Reporter: John, do you think your team can beat the proposed opponents?
JD: Well, I reckon our team can beat Zimbabwe and give England a run for their money. As for South Africa, we'll see.

Reporter: Will your batsmen hold up well?
JD: Well, Marvin (Attapatu) has had some knee problems but apart from that our batsmen should hold up really well.

Reporter: Has the ICC allowed Mularitharan to play?
JD: Yes, thankfully. Some rule changes were made to allow the bowlers arm angle to change.

Reporter: Thanks for that John.
JD: No probs.

Attapatu pulls out from first test!

Marvin Attapatu has pulled out from the first test after scans on his knee showed it to be worse than first thought. He will be out for the first test and hopefully be back for the second test.

Reporter: Sanath, how do you feel about your opening batsman (Marvin Attapatu) pulling out of the first test?
SJ: It will certainly hinder our batting, but Dilhara Fernando will step in. Chandana will now be 12th man.

Reporter: Do you believe you can still win without Attapatu?
SJ: Definetely, but our bowling may have to work a little harder.

Reporter: Well thanks Sanath.
SJ: Thank you.

The first test will take place tommorow at 2:30pm Melbourne, Australia time.
The nation with the most votes shall face Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan selectors choose 11 to play in 1st test.

With the fact that English are the likely opponents, Sri Lankan selectors released the selected 11 for the first test earlier than planned.

Before their pre-game warm up, Sanath Jayasuria and Michael Vaughan attend a pre-game conference.

Reporter: Sanath and Michael, who are your main opponents?
SJ: Well, I'd like to see Chaminda (Vaas) and Muttiah (Mularitharan) shut down Trescothick and Butcher.
MV: Our batsman are looking to stop Vaas and Nissanka and our bowlers plan to attack Sanath (Jayasuria) and Tillakaratne.

Reporter: Michael, how do you plan to stop Mularitharan?
MV: Well, we all plan to keep our cool and play through the innings steadily.

Reporter: Sanath, I know it's been asked, but how long will Attapatu be out for?
SJ: I've been told by our physio that Marvin (Attapatu) will miss at least the first test. Hopefully he'll be back for the second.
