In May, we saw the sad dismissal of duff, which in my opinion was an unpresidented decision by the administrators.

When I saw that thread (http://www.planetcricket.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33315)

I knew that Duff was going to have to face some serious consequences for that thread unfortunately, but he spoke the truth.

But Duff's sacrifice would make the forum a better place, would it not? :D

I don't think we've come very far in this regard. Moderators continue to abuse their powers, for less than meaningless things. Now certain moderators require that the post must contribute something to the thread / forum.

Define that please? Does this mean that we have to directly answer the post? Does this mean we can't post light hearted humor about something in a post above us?

Forums are meant for fun, but this is becoming rediculous.

You can't even make a joke now days, especially if it doesn't relate to helping the person asking for help in the thread, or the thread topic.

And I don't mean random jokes out of the blue, but light hearted humor about what something said, etc.

It seems like all the moderators are in a competition of some sort ; whoever can make the most edits/deletes/thread moves/combines is the best moderator... which I find unacceptable.

After the drama in May, I expected several moderators to be removed from the panel, or at least have some of their privlidges and powers removed till an unspecified time.

The only thing I can see that resulted out of what Duff posted and the sacrifice for PC was the result of his removal from the Administration team.

Over the past few days, I've noticed that this problem of moderators abusing their very few tools to the fullest extent? Why? Who knows, possibly PC is running a competition in their private areas - The Mod who can use their tools the most wins a free vacation to the Bahamas? Who knows.

However, something has to be done about this. Please note, that I mention moderators, and not administrators. The administrators have done a FANTASTIC job in my opinion, although the only one I ever see online is Colin - full marks to them. But I also realize they have lives, and do not have the time to go through every moderator's actions.

Please note, I have no problems with the administrators of the website, they've done a fantastic job, but my query is... well... the moderators?

Prehaps its time we get rid of the old and ageing and bring in the new and young?

Comments and thoughts please.

You want a light hearted forum, but then talk about firing the moderators...hmmm. A lot of young moderators including me have been taken on and believe you me, we will try and make the forum as fun and yet not unruly as possible.

If you ever see a decision made unfairly in the cricket chat forum, personal message me and I will look into it and explain it to you in the greatest of detail.

Let's see some examples of power abuse then.

To say you can't make a joke is a load of old tosh. You can have fun, but is it so hard to keep it relevant to the topic in hand?

I am on the opposite with this, zMario. I feel the quality of the moderation has vastly improved since the corruption crisis. At the time, yes there was a problem but the admin acted on it and Andrew's statement has been stuck to by the letter in my opinion.

I think its mostly down to opinion. What you may see as a bad decision, someone else might see as a fair one. There's a big grey area when it comes to that and that's what makes it so difficult to moderate a forum like this.

I don't know what you are talking about to be honest. As Stevie said, some examples would be nice and according to your statements there should be many to choose from.

Personally, I choose to do moderating as an addition to being an active member. What I mean by this is that I will read the forums as I would anyway and if there is something that obviously needs dealing with, I deal with it. I would never go searching to try and make edits/deletes and I dont think any of the other Staff do either

Exactly Lee.

zMario, if you have a problem with the way the forum is run, PM a moderator, global moderator or admin. We always listen.

Don't post a thread about it. It didn't do Duff any favours, and he had a spotless record. For someone who was warned a month ago for his behaviour, this is going to do you no favours whatsoever.

Again, if you have a problem, PM someone. Try reading the rules once in a while.
