As soon as I got into my abode for the next hour, which will take me to Bengaluru for the all important Indian Premier League, I open Facebook to update the status, and as soon as I open, I find yet another bunch of notifications, and yes, from the day I hit the news for being contracted by the RCB, I had been receiving messages from the famous pages related to Cricket news and unknown people are sending friend requests in heavy number.

I ignore all of them, and update my status "Yes, the all important day is here. On my way to Bengaluru to join Namma RCB."-

travelling to Bengaluru, India from Hyderabad, India.

This was my third journey in an aircraft, given that I always prefer trains when it comes to traveling to places. Even while I had been to Bengaluru for signing the contract, I had taken the train and I wanted to take the train this time around as well. But thanks to the very limited time and short notice, I had no other option but to fly.

Yes, I was asked to switch off my mobile phone and I had taken a brief nap, and I was woken up by crew, who told that we were about to land. I got freshened and yes, plane landing is always special.

I started moving out and I was waiting for my luggage, when the person to pick me up rang me up. With a brief negotiation, I finally found myself in the reception at the lavish ITC Gardenia, around 3 KMs from the RCB Home, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

I was greeted by two ladies, and they put a "bindi" on my forehead. I was informed that my room was 119, and the room would be all for me until the end of the season. I felt happy, because in Ranji Trophy, we didn't had this kind of service. First of all, we were forced to be in the formidable hotel (Non-AC) even though it was our own city. And then we were not given the room for ourselves until the end of the season so that we could move our cricket equipment to that room and take it from there at the end of the season. For this reason, I was already feeling comfortable at RCB and the moment I enter the room, I was more in love with RCB.

"This is something which no one gets to experience easily! Yes- IPL is indeed lucrative, leave alone the salary, I'd play for free if they give me this type of treatment" I though myself and I was given a pamphlet, which had our schedule for next two days.

According to that piece of paper, we had the scheduled of when each player would join us and going by it, we already had many names like Badrinath, Dinda, Aaron, Chahal, Bisla to name a few. Big shots like Gayle, Sammy and de Villiers were expected to arrive early hours the next day. Kohli was scheduled to arrive the same evening.

And as I continued, there was a short welcome letter by our franchisee owner, Vijay. He wrote "Welcome to RCB. Feel free at this place and consider this like your home. Play Hard, Play Fair, Have Fun and Make History!"

This was all what I had been exactly dreaming. And then, the schedule for the coming two days followed. There was a team meeting scheduled at 18:00 hours, that is right after the arrival of the skipper. It was just 15:00 in the afternoon, and yes, I had all the time for myself. I tried to get some sleep, but it wasn't quite something I was able to achieve. I rang up a friend of mine who stays at Bengaluru and we thought of having a meet up with the gang of our Rail Enthusiasts for a short while so that I could return by 17:30.

We roamed across the streets of Bengaluru and thankfully, I was dropped at 17:40, I quickly got ready and I was there at the conference hall at 17:55. Yes, there were few players who have already come there and I was a bit nervous, meeting the team members for the first time.

I had went up to Yuzuvendra Chahal, with whom I had met in the Ranji times, especially when he was injured at Hyderabad, and he introduced me to few players like Varun, Ashok, who were the part of RCB in the last season as well. Four bowlers, and the experience of bowling in IPL was thrown into mix. Yes, it was my first IPL, but Ashok kept on telling me that IPL was no special when it came to cricket. Especially for bowlers, its the hardest time of the entire year because very players will be successful and most of the domestic bowlers would be targeted for increasing their run rate. And Varun advised me to practice bowling at precise targets on the pitch, so that it would be helpful at the games.

And then, the meeting organizer, our coach- Daniel Vettori, was finally at the mic, asking everyone to pay attention. Virat Kohli, the player who had inspired me at few stages of my life, had walked into the room and everybody greeted him. I gave him a shake-hand and told him my name.

Then, it was the time for introduction for the team joiners of the day, and I, along with Sean, Dinesh Karthik (KKD) and Virat had introduced ourselves. I was meeting the players from other countries for the first time, and it was pleasure to be at the camp.

It was Sean, who got the mic first, he introduced himself, and he had clearly mentioned that he was mentally doing well of late, and he was really looking forward for the IPL.

Virat had handed the mic to Dinesh Karthik and he gave a brief introduction, with Badrinath pulling his legs, creating hilarious atmosphere around.

The captain pat me on my back and handed the mic, and I was kind of nervous. This kind of introduction was something which I had never seen beforehand, and I spoke out
"Good evening people. I'm Prithvi Raj, referred as Binnu. I'm a right arm medium pace bowler, and I come from Hyderabad. I play for Hyderabad Ranji team, and my native roots are from Karnataka. Ardent fan of trains and yes, I wish we all could travel in train."

No sooner I told that, Virat spoke "Trains? Dude, are you crazy or what?"

Few hilarious comments blew- like marriage in train and sex in train, but later Dan interrupted and asked Virat to introduce. He was shy, and yes, slogans attracting ladies flew and the hilarious dialogues had no limit.

It was time for some snacks, and yes, just before heading to the snacks, our physiotherapist had clear cut instructions to us, no outside food three days prior to match. And we were asked to tell our superstitions (this itself was embarrassing) so that they would do something and I didn't listen that given that telling a superstition isn't something which happens often.

Some snacks and we were back at the hall.

We all were given tabs, with an app opened, where we could type in something and submit. Dan had informed us that there are two such pages- the first is for our batting and the second is about our bowling. He insisted us to write down our weaknesses in the respective department.

With regards to batting- I had written that I was probably a number XI batsman, who would end up batting at XI even if I was playing for some university. Although I kind of defend well, but against spinners, I can connect the bat to the ball for loft shots.

With regards to bowling- I being a specialist bowler, had faced problem to decide when to make use of variations I had. I had wide range of deliveries, but I didn't knew which one to use at a precise point of over while bowling to a particular batsman. Without any hesitation, I had written it and hit on "Submit".

Then it was announced- a small fitness session, and we were ordered to get geared up in practice kits and get assembled in the gym by 19:30 sharp. We were also informed that in the two way wardrobe, our practice kits were available.

Hey mate, I consider this to be the greatest update in this section.
Never read such a detailed update. Looks like a chapter in a novel. I can see the enormous effort you've put.
KUDOS...

Prithvi, the player will have hard time scratching the seats of the pavilion through out the season. Because RR is the only team which gives opportunity to younger inexp. players.
Maybe you can get a chance in dead rubber match.
And you're a medium pacer?! Hard time mate, your balls will fly across the fence if you play in the XI.
If you like Beer, you can be glad to join RCB.

I had done some workouts in the gym and we were informed that we would have a practice session at 09:00 hours the next day and we were asked to be ready by 08:00 at the meeting hall with all our kits for practice kept in two way cupboard.

I had a nice sleep and next day, I woke up usually at 05:00 hours. I took a nice half an hour jog in the streets of Garden city, and reached MG Road metro and went on to take a small ride in metro.

I was back to the hotel by 7:30, and yes, as planned, I kept my kit in the two way cupboard and took a much needed bath. I reached the meeting hall a bit late, by 08:05 and voila!! Gayle, AB, Sammy and Rossouw were there. I honestly do not know but yes, I felt the team looked complete with their addition. I had introduced myself to them and Gayle had already started pulling me leg while we were having breakfast. At first, I was afraid to give it back, but in very short time, I started giving return leg pull. I had heard loads of talk about Gayle's attitude and nature and when I experienced it that day, it was super cool and something very unique. We had little breakfast, before we head to the Chinnaswamy.

On our journey to stadium, we had to pass the metro construction site and once we were passing- captain called up my name and he told- "You girlfriend" and pointed to the metro train. This was getting way too hilarious as this was contagious disease and everyone started calling me by that name.

No sooner we reached stadium, than we were taken to our dressing rooms. Our kits were already kept at our places and we were asked to keep all our electronic devices at our bays and get assembled at practice nets. We were informed about the rules in stadium, and yes, I had known most of them.

I got geared up with my RCB practice kit. We all assembled at the mini ground near the practice nets and lined up. I could observe that this particular area of the stadium had a fridge full of Gatorade drinks in the top two rows, then water bottles for the remaining two rows, then an Ambulance was present there, in case of casualty. Dan came out and had asked us all to have a warm up, which lasted for 20 minutes. I had done few stretches considering I was a bowler and I would be bowling in some time.

Once the warm up was done, it was the showtime- yes all pacers available at the camp, Varun, Ashok, Abu, Sammy and myself were made to stand at a place and we were asked to do some extra running at the gym. The spinners took off their practice by bowling to the youngsters at the camp where as the batsmen started facing the local bowlers of KSCA. We ran for 20 minutes and then I was handed a ball. I was pretty sure that it wasn't a normal cricket ball, considering it was used for some cricket (I could make out by checking the seam of the ball, but the leather was shining. It weighed more than what normal ball weighs and I was asked to bowl to Rilee Rossouw. I had informed the batsman that the ball was weighing a bit more than what an ideal ball would weigh, just because to make sure that he is aware of the difference in the ball. I took my regular 8 foot run up and I stood until Dan came. He was going to each person, talked to them, check couple of deliveries and went to the next person.

He was talking to Sammy, and Harshy's net was a sandwich between mine and Sammy's net. I waited patiently, and he stood for more than three deliveries with regards to Harshy. When Harshal went off to bowl, I walked to him to see the way he balls. He doesn't has some extraordinary or remarkable bowling action, has one which is considered as a normal one, and he was hitting at the deck hard enough so that the ball reaches the waist height. Yes, he was bowling to Vijay Zol, the only player in the camp who makes me feel that I'm senior :p .

Finally after four deliveries, Dan tapped my back and we came to my net. He observed my run up mark. "Medium pacer- just bowl one like your wish for once."

I took my normal 8 foot run up, and gave a normal one, aiming right on the crease on the leg stump. Rilee didn't hesitate, but came front foot, and lofted it real hard towards the long on position and I was pretty sure, had it been on ground, it would have ended up somewhere in the stands.

I didn't knew how to respond, because it is a well open fact that no matter how much you keep yourself motivated, the entire tournament would be something similar, getting smashed over the line for sixes.

I went back to my run up mark and looked at Dan. "Good one mate. Give another shot."

I tried to bowl short, and yet another time, I had bowled one, and it made a slight difference. He pulled that, and the sound of the bat hitting the ball itself was enough to prove where it was going.

I ran to my mark, self motivated talking to myself and closing eyes. Dan walked to my run up mark and had asked me to take 6 more additional foot in the run up. I picked up the run up marker, took additional six foot and placed it there. This time, I was going to bowl at an extra pace, Rilee would have predicted it. Now I was significantly farther from the batsman and whatever I talked with Vettori, he couldn't listen. "Just bowl a shorter delivery. He is guarded with a helmet. Take the normal ball, because a bouncer kind of thing with that ball could be lethal. And run fast at the last end while releasing the ball."

This was something which I used to do as a youngster. A long run up, and this used to reduce the strength while fielding at the depth overs in me in OD Cricket, which was the main reason I flipped to medium pace bowling. I told Dan about my past and he asked me to be a fast bowler in this format given that I had to bowl only for little amount of time. I took a normal ball from the basket, it was a 16 over old ball, and I started my run up. I was really running fast at the end of the run up and I released the ball at real great speed. While I was releasing the ball, all my plans were to send that ball to a particular point on the pitch, from where the ball could take a healthy bounce, at least onto the batsman's helmet. I missed my target on pitch by inches, but it was quick enough, and the batsman had really very less time to react. Yet Rilee managed to obstruct the bouncer with the bat, right in front of his face. I heard the claps from behind. "Brilliant." Ashok gave me a compliment who was with Dan watching me bowl. "Keep practicing short balls. Your height is an added advantage for you. Keep hitting the deck harder, and at the same time, do not compromise on pace." He gave me a pat on my back and stayed there for one more delivery. This time, I had tried little weirder, full pace what I could afford at the good length region, just outside the off stump. I managed to keep the ball perfectly with me until I delivered and put my full arm force at the time of release. Yes- the ball hit the point on the deck where I targeted, and the result was surprising- batsman tried to play cover drive, but I was pretty sure he misjudged it, ended up giving a very thick edge to the wicket keeper.

I had a laugh at my face, and so did Rilee. Dan showed me thumbs up and asked me to carry on.

I tried different lines and lengths, and had some brief chat with Rilee. He had asked me to chuck a few at the right areas so that he could face some kind of balls which he wanted to play.

We had practiced for almost one hour, and then we had a small break.

To be continued.

Thanks man. My first language isn't English and I'm 22 now. I still commit many grammatical errors due to different first language. I had been with Amazon for 8 months which has really boosted my language. And I don't think I deserve to be in Writing Team given that I don't often write and I'm back to PC after long time. Even now, I'm trying to mingle into PC, which has been very difficult. I go on numerous impromptu tours, which keeps my activity unsure :) .

Not actually, considering I just want to write more. But yes, a decent 800*300 banner with "The IPL Stint"- and RCB logos would be cool :) .

Amazon Development Center. I got into the firm as a Subject Matter Expert of Amazon Process to help the new hires and later moved into a testing project. Then came out for seeking a job in my field :) .

Few months ago I had placed an order for a Watch from Amazon. I had submitted an enquiry for the same and I wonder it was you(Prithvi Raj) who gave a satisfactory reply...

I wouldn't actually give a reply because I will not be able to send a reply to you given that I was mentor of a batch of new hires. Those words you might have received might be mine.

BTW, PM me the e-mail you have received, because everyone, right from security to site manager were taking calls/chats and e-mails at the Diwali Dhamaka thing. I'll confirm if it was me or not ;)
