Saturday 6th April

Saturday morning was hell. I actually thought I had cracked my head open my head ache was so bad. To make things worse I had to try and work out where I was when I woke up. It was pretty dark and I spent ages trying to fumble around. Eventually I realised I was in the airing cupboard. I decided I wouldn't even try and work out why I was in there :noway My next shock was to find Cooky in my bath and Andy on my sofa with Gemma in my bed. Everyone else was asleep. It was still quite early only nine thirty.

The rest of that morning was spent recovering. Cooky refused to wake up so we ended up having to soak him with the shower. I have never seen him move that quickly in my whole life :p :laugh For some reason he didn't appreciate having to walk home soaking wet. By mid-day everyone was out of my house and I was beginning to feel a lot better. I sat down for a lunch of cheese and toast with a Protein Drink which tasted disgusting. However this is when I realised my next problem. There was no chance I could legally drive in this condition. I was way over the limit  However that wonderful angel of a person Simon Cusden, from the 2XI, turned up on my door-step and offered me a lift to training. I hurried around and got my kit together before we headed off.

You know what? I wasn't very surprised when at training there was only a half a squad. I don't think Graham was too pleased and he said he would be having words with those who were absent. Thank God for Simon :upray With only half a squad here it did make things a lot more fun. Graham had originally planned for us to go over yesterday's match, but with only myself, David, and the two Martin's here there was no point. Instead we played poker with the guys from the 2XI

I'm not too skilled at poker and lost half my money (as Colin can testify :p) however I won it all back playing Blackjack (as if I could in real life  :p) Eventually we did do some training but it was up in the gym where we were lifiting weights and working on the X-Trainer. The coach decided to put the team up which seemed pretty pointless as there was hardly anyone here but he said he would phone those who had been picked.

Early start guys so meet tomorrow at 7:00. If anyone is late they'll be made to walk there. No joke!!!

I had already known Martin would be dropped. He was not as young as he used to be and he needed a rest. This gave Amjad a great chance to impress and he really deserved it. I could see from the look on his face how pleased he was. I was also pleased to see that I had been given the new ball with Andy. This would be my chance to impress. The big news, however, was the old skip, Rob, had been dropped. It was not a major surprise. He had been in really bad form recently and could probably do with a break. With Geraint still away David was filling in as keeper. This would be a tough match for us. The Gloucestershire bowling attack is one of the best. Us batsmen would have to be on top form to make a decent score.

That evening and much to my surprise Sky Sports did a run down of all the players in the County Game who had made a good start. I was pleased to see my name there.

.......the big story this season has been the rookie Tom Baker who has made quite an impact on Kent. He describes himself as a batting-allrounder and yet his figures suggest that so far this season he has been in better form with the ball. He has got some pretty nice figures to look at. Just take a look:

CopyofCricket20052008-03-0219-34-15.jpg

The main figures that stand out for me is an economy rate of just 2.80 in OD games and a batting average of 41. He has not made such an impressive start in the FC game with an economy rate of 4.10 and a batting average of 14. He has however picked up 5 wickets from just the one match. The key is for him to focus on maintaining his excellent figures in the OD game and try and work on the FC game. However this boy has a very bright future and who knows. Maybe one day he might be captaining England? In other news........

Once again my name and England had been brought up. There was beginning to be a lot of pressure on me. I would soon have to start making really big impacts on the game as up until now I had been chipping in on a team effort. The match tomorrow up in Bristol would give me an excellent chance to prove myself. Batting at five and bowling with the new ball. This was a great chance for me.

Great stats and a great chance England will be knocking on your doorstep - just like Simon Cusden did! :) Great update as usual! :)

brillaint update as always mate be interesting to see how the match goes and weather you can do well or not

Nice work Tom, and hopefully your bowling average can stay as low as what it is now. A little to early for England though...
