Hall is veryu capable and with Tom also there anything can happen :)

awesome to sere this story still going great work tommy !!!!!!

With that pitch, batsmen always need to be red ALERT to outsmart the bowlers. Lets see how Tom adjust and tune himself as per the conditions. ;)

Magnificent presentation as always, Tom :clap

I bet Windows will have a few bruises in the morning! :P Kent in big trouble and Hall and yourself are the last stand. Lets get a big score! :)

Sunday 7th April

Kent were in a lot of trouble. I was beginning to glance more and more often up the sky, praying for it to rain. We could really do with a break from having to face this constant onslaught from the Gloucester bowlers. the Gloucestershire bowlers sensing our concern began to bowl even more agressively, with plenty of deliveries whistling past my head. I was not enjoying my innings and my plan was now to hopefully try and get through to lunch where we could re-group. Scoring runs did not matter anymore, my wicket was far more valuable.

A couple of boundaries were struck to take us onto 64/5 and then disaster struck. Averis had been causing me a fair few problems and I had played and missed countless times. After receiving a knock on the helmet I tried to cover-drive the next ball. At the last moment the ball seamed and I did not have enough time to re-adjust. The ball took a thick edge and flew towards Spearman who once again took a stunning catch. It was almost a complete copy of Darren's dismissal. I was really annoyed with myself as I slowly walked of with the cheers ringing in my ears. My job had been to stay in and I had failed :(

In the changing room, I threw of my pads and smashed my bat against a locker chipping a slither of it. I would later regret that as it meant I had to get a new bat. But I was angry, really angry. Everyone expected so much of me and I had let them down. I was just sitting up there beating myself up when Cooky came down. He was all padded up as he was next in.

"Hey Tom. Don't beat yourself up down here. No one blames you for getting out. It's very difficult out there and 200+ will be a good total. Come up stairs. The lads want to see you. They think you did well, lasting out there for so long."

Cooky had succeded in cheering me up. He was right, I thought. It had been difficult out there, with all that cloud cover and the condition of the pitch. If guys like David and Martin who had international experience could not cope, what chance did a young rookie like me have?

Up on the balcony everyone was watching Jimmy and Andy bat. A big score was now not expected but required of these guys. Hopefully as the day wore on batting conditions would be easier. Slowly the partnership grew between these two and Andy began to look in fine touch. Eventually the umpire removed the bails, to leave us on 101/6. We were in big trouble but at least Andy and Jimmy had begun to salvage something. That lunch time, David and Graham tried to cheer us up.

"Hey lads, just think. Whatever their bowlers do we can do ten times better. The conditions are the same for everyone. We just have to keep our heads up."

I mused this while eating my lasagne. Graham came over to me.

"It's been reported to me that you caused some damage in the changing rooms with your bat. I know it is frustrating when you get out but you must remember whether we are home or away we have to set an example. If you ever do that again, you'll be of the team. You got that?"

"Yeah I have. Sorry coach. I'll make up for it with the ball."

"Now that's the spirit I like to hear."

What Graham had said was true. I should have known better not to lose my temper. I would now have to use my second bat in the second innings. Jimmy and Andy were preparing to go out again as it was nearly twenty to two. We needed some heroics by them

Kent 101/6 @ Lunch on Day 1

A. Hall* 27 (30)

Ha, the sort of thing I would do. Not that I would apologise to the coach for it afterwards though :p

Kent in big trouble, but 200 odd could prove a good score...
