Hagley Oval to host the first pre-season game
Wilfred Rhodes First-Class Shield is all set to kick off, with Landscape hosting the first pre-season game against Canterbury at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The Hagley Oval plays advantage to both sides, as both sides tend to use this stadium as their homeground. Canterbury, the winners of the 2016/17 season of the Plunket Shield will be fielding an XI in PCPL for the first time in history.

Canterbury XI:
J. Boyle, C. Bowes, H. Nicholls, K. McClure, C. McConchie, A. Ellis*, T. Astle, C. Fletcher†, L. van Beek, W. Williams, E. Nuttall

Canterbury revealed their playing XI ahead of the pre-season game against Landscape, who will soon reveal their playing XI. Beating the winners of the Plunket Shield isn't going to be an easy task for Landscape, but either way, it's going to be a close encounter.

Context

Landscape are looking for a fresh start to their first-class season after having only returned for this leg of PCPL. Landscape did not participate in the List-A and Twenty20 legs of the tournament, and are strong underdogs going up against Canterbury, the winners of New Zealand's First-Class tournament, the Plunket Shield. Canterbury's captain, Andrew Ellis will be the one to watch out for. He scored 652 runs at an average of 40.75, and took 27 wickets at an average 24.59 in the Plunket Shield.
