Cricinfo's having an all time World Cup XI mail in. Was interested to see everyone's team. Mine's below:

Matthew Hayden:bat::aus:, Sachin Tendulkar:bat::ind:, Ricky Ponting:bat::aus:, Kumar Sangakkara (:wkb:wk):sri:, AB de Villiers:bat::saf:, Imran Khan:ar:(:c:):pak:, Lance Klusener:ar::saf:, Wasim Akram:bwl::pak:, Shane Warne:bwl::aus:, Muttiah Muralitharan:bwl::sri:, Glenn McGrath:bwl::aus:

Imran Khan to lead, of course, as he gets the team to play like “cornered tigers”. Class at the top of the order. Good left/right combos in the top four as well. Sanga to keep wickets. Fire power in De Villiers and Klusener, and a bit with Akram. Both Warne and Murli on the team with Imran and McGrath to lead the attack with the new ball. Akram’s reverse with the older ball (à la those two deliveries). An attack that can handle any surface in the world. Only thing missing from this 11 might be a bit of pace (although arguably Akram and Imran have that covered in their prime). Thought about Brett Lee (great World Cup strike rate as well), but opted for Klusener instead as a potential sixth bowler. His batting was the decider (hopefully no games come down to the last run with him on strike).

I cheated and sent in two XIs :) First, was a 'normal' one based on World Cup performances over a whole career, and I ended up with:
Sachin Tendulkar :ind:, Tillakartne Dilshan :sri:, Kumar Sangakkara (:wk:):sri:, AB de Villiers :saf:, Michael Clarke :aus: , Lance Klusener :saf:, Imran Khan :pak: (:c:), Wasim Akram :pak:, Chaminda Vaas :sri:, Muttiah Muralitharan :sri:, Glenn McGrath :aus:.

And 4 Aussie reserves who got close: Ricky Ponting, Andrew Symonds, Gary Gilmour, Mitchell Starc

Then I made the more fun one: with one player who excelled at each of the 11 world cups so far:
Glenn Turner (1975) :nz:, Matthew Hayden (2007) :aus:, Martin Crowe (1992) (:c:) :nz:, Viv Richards (1987) :wi:, Aravinda de Silva (1996) :sri:, Lance Klusener (1999) :saf:, Adam Gilchrist (2003) (:wk:) :aus:, Shahid Afridi (2011) :pak:, Richard Hadlee (1983) :nz:, Mitchell Starc (2015) :aus:, Mike Hendrick (1979) :eng:.

Some of the years were easy: Crowe-'92, Klusener-'99, Starc-'15.
Some were total toss ups: Richards-'87. No stand out player in this tournament so I chose Viv because he scored the quickest; Gilchrist-'03. He got the record for World Cup for keeping dismissals from this tournament and I couldn't decide between Tendulkar/Gibbs/Vaas/Murali so wimped out and picked the keeper from '03 instead. Kapil Dev unlucky to miss out to Hadlee in '83, but with Gilchrist down the order, I hardly need more batting. The spinner was tough. Maninder Singh in '87 was decent, Kumble in '96, Murali in '03 and '07 were options too. I liked Afridi's performances in 2011 though and thought he deserved it - plus more lower order hitting.

It Would be interesting if someone can pick XI by this particular format posted by ICC on their official social media page.
