I mean what were you implying? I didn't quite understand.
Imply - How Morgan now doesn't fit into the scheme of things in this English setup now.

As a batter he has little to none in all these years and with 2023 coming up which might just be the last time he remains in the squad as the skipper.

On a lighter note wanted to get back at @wasteyouryouth :p

Forgot the #Morganout.

Since the World Cup his record has been almost identical to his career record. 39.22 at 91 SR.

I don't know if he'll make it to the 2023 World Cup, I think it depends on his fitness as much as his form.

I think Morgan is making to the 2023 WC any way. So I don't think there should be any doubts regarding that. I think Morgan is eyeing it as his last tournament with what he said just recently as per an article on Cricinfo.

If we treat Morgan as an automatic selection, then it's quite fun to think about where he might fit into a full-strength England ODI team. I'd suggest possibly at number seven in a sort of specialist captain role, but I'd not bat him above either Livingstone or Moeen.

Although his record since the last World Cup hasn't been awful, there is the asterisk that this is the first ODI he's played in the last year - a time when he has seemingly forgotten which way up the bat goes.

If everything depended on performance then Zak Crawley should not be anywhere near England's Test squad. But that is far from reality.

I doubt if ECB would really want to drop Eoin Morgan. If they had plans to not take him into the next WC they would not play him for a such a long time.

He probably would be near the ODI squad though. Strikes at around 150 in T20 cricket, averages 31 in T20s and 36 in List A cricket (although of course, that's an old sample, because the ECB killed its List A cricket for reasons).

As previously mentioned, Morgan has a place in that side for as long as he wants one - and then when he retires (after the 23 World Cup at the latest imo) he'll be straight in as Matthew Mott's assistant.

That said, I'd probably be looking at the following batting unit if I must include Morgan:
  1. :eng: :bat: Jason Roy
  2. :eng: :wkb: Jonny Bairstow
  3. :eng: :bat: Joe Root
  4. :eng: :wkb: Jos Buttler
  5. :eng: :ar: Liam Livingstone
  6. :eng: :ar: Moeen Ali
  7. :eng: :bat: Eoin Morgan :c:
One other player who may well be coming to the end of the road is Adil Rashid. Admittedly these are really small sample sizes but he's not doing too great recently:

Morgan at seven as the specialist captain plus basher makes too much sense. I’d have Stokes in ahead of Mo though. The latter has never impressed me in ODIs and Stokes should be the man for the number four slot. Buttler at five is ideal, I wouldn’t want him in very early at four which is quite likely if England’s openers both fall. Livingstone at six is also perfect. Between Root, Stokes and Livingstone England can fill their fifth and sixth bowler quotas hopefully.
