I feel embarrassed when I consider that England's top spinner is as good as our current spinner (Hogg) :p

NO WAY panesar is sosososo much better than hogg

- he is younger
- he is more consistent
- he takes more wickets

- hogg bowls short the whole time

i agree how good aus are but you cant take away we have a better spinner

luckily macgill will be back soon so that will no longer be true but yes panesar is easily better than hogg

I heard an All round Off-Spinner from "Nagaland", India of "Chinese-Indian" Origin is making a debut for IPL. Coaches were really impressed by his performance.

"No Sources yet.".:what????; I heard this on radio.

eg
South Africa - Thandi Tshabalala (young up-and-comer, 4 ODIs)
Pakistan - Danish Kaneria (220 Test wickets, how did you miss him?) Shoaib Malik also has 100 ODI wickets, while Shahid Afridi has 200.
India - Murali Kartik (8 Tests, 37 ODIs and by a large section thought to be better than Harbhajan), Piyush Chawla (13 ODIs - 19 year old leg spinning all-rounder)
West Indies - have used Marlon Samuels for spin in the absence of Gayle. Recently have used a plethora of all-rounders, the most recent being leggie Rawl Lewis, but also chinaman Dave Mohammad, left arm orthodox Ryan Hinds and offie Omari Banks, each playing 5-10 Tests. However, if they look beyond the all-rounders, they may have a genuine specialist dying to get a game.
Bangladesh - Mohammad Rafique (ageing, but will probably take 100 Test wickets before he retires) Abdur Razzak (might be a bit unrecognised, but has some real talent - a key performer in ODIs), Shakib Al Hasan (very composed as a batsman, but also gets a lot of rip on his spinners, netting about 1 wicket per ODI)
Sri Lanka - Dilruwan Perera is the second spinner in Sri Lanka's current squad, discounting Jayasuriya.

It does feel weird about the spin situation, because I think we have better up and coming spinners than Australia. I think Panesar and Rashid are better than their young spinners. Hogg was awful vs India, can't see him playing Tests again. MacGill will but then he's not got long left due to body and age. Bandara for Sri Lanka anyone?

Yeah surpisingly. Australia do have a few spinners but none that really shine enough to be the next national spinner. Cullen, Bailey, Hauritz have some talent but they haven't performed well enough that Australia have had to turn to Hogg and he's been quite poor and as Sureshot said MacGill is ageing and they'll be in trouble if one of those guys doesn't put their hand sooner or later.

Rashid has proven he has a lot of work to do after the disappointing last season he had averaging 39 (I think). He has the all round talent and now he needs to prove it again since this will be an important season this season. I think the batsmen last year have assessed that Rashid is generally dangerous have taken the attack too him. It will take him a few seasons but hopefully he will learn to use his flight and variations and become the finished article and then start knocking on the door for an England place. Of course, lest hope he can keep up his standards with the bat and in the field, since that will help him with selection.
