Sri Lanka vs Kenya @ New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg
Sri Lanka demolished Kenya and knocked them out of the competition with a 9 wicket win. All the Sri Lankan bowlers bowled tight and then Jayasuriya ripped into the Kenyan bowling attack.
Kenya won the toss and batted first even with most of the chasing sides winning. Things started badly for Kenya as Vaas bowled Obuya off a no ball and then Sangakkara uncharacteristicly dropped Ouma (5) off Fernando. But Vaas got his man the very next over, this time bowling Obuya off a legitimate ball. Kenya were under strong pressure from Sri Lanka and looked to risky 1's and 2's. This almost resulted in Shah being run out going for a very tight two. On the alst ball before the end of the fielding restrictions, Kenya lost their 2nd wicket. Shah shuffled across his stumps and toed the ball onto leg stump, giving Fernando his 1st wicket. Malinga came into the attack and he got a wicket in only his 3rd ball. The wicket was of the opening batsman and wicket keeper Maurice Ouma. He made 7 before the pace of Malinga did for him and he was plum infront of middle. Kenyan's most experienced and skilled batsman came to the crease and made Malinga look like a medium pacer by slapping him through point first ball. Jayasuriya came into the attack and immediately tied the batsman up, bowling a maiden 1st over. The pressure got to much for Mishra and ran a stupid 3rd which resulted in a easy run out for Chaminda Vaas. Malinga then got a maiden before Obuya was bowled by Jayasuriya, who was troubling the inexperienced batsmen. Dilshan came into the attack and then Vaas came back for 1 over. With just his 1st ball back he dismissed the Kenyan rock that is Steve Tikolo for 25. Tikolo just missed a straight one and vaas hit the top of middle. There was no more resistance from Kenya, with constant loss of wickets and a very low run rate. Vaas finished off his 4 overs with a maiden and then very next over Dilshan got his 1st. Kamande played all around it and Dilshan hit off stump. At the other end Fernando finished his 4 overs also with a maiden. Maharoof came on to bowl the alst over and got the wicket of Onyango last ball. Only 2 runs came off it and it resulted in Kenya making a measly 63-8 from their 20 overs. Tikolo was the only batsman to get past 7, hitting 25. Vaas took 2 wickets and all the other bowls got 1 each.
Sri Lanka almost lost a wicket 3rd ball with Jayasuriya hitting the ball towards point where the man dropped a difficult chance. No such luck for Upul Tharanga as he hit one straight down mid on's throat with just 2 runs to his name. T. Odoyo was the man with the wicket and Tikolo took the catch. From then on in it was a doddle for Sangakkara and especially Jayasuriya. From the 3rd from last over he hit 23 off it, including 3 fours, a six, a two and a three. Next over he hit 18 from it with 3 fours and a six. He hit a boundary to finish things off and along the way collecting his 50. Jayasuriya finished on 51* from 22 balls and Sangakkara 10* off 15 deliveries. Kenya now out meaning the game between New Zealand and Sri Lanka is to see who tops the group.
