The IOC made a new rule that each country that holds the Olympics may add a new demonstration sport. China were pressured and made it Twenty20 held in Asia. the 12 teams were split into 3 "pre-groups" of 4 teams. Off to Bejing now for the offical lowdown.

The 12 teams will go in to 3 pre-groups after a seeded draw in which all the teams from that pot will go into different groups.
In each of the sub-groups the Top-Seed in the group will play against the Bottom Seed and the 2nd and 3rd seeded teams will play. Then the 2 winners will fight for a spot in the semi-finals. With 1 lucky runner-up going through.

Here are the 12 teams in their groups.

Top Seeds.

Australia
India
South Africa

2nd Seeds.

Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Sri Lanka
New Zealand

3rd Seeds.

Pakistan
West Indies
Zimbabwe(IOC Team)

Bottom Seeds.

Bangladesh
Kenya
Canada

Here is the draw.

Top Seeds.

Group A is...Australia
Group B is...South Africa, so...
Group C is....India

2nd Seeds.

Group A is...Sri Lanka
Group B is...New Zealand, so...
Group C is...England

3rd seeds.

Facing Sri Lanka in Group A...West Indies
The team in Group B is...Zimbabwe
So Great Britain and Northern Ireland face...Pakistan

Bottom Seeds.

Facing the World Champions, Australia, is...Kenya
South Africa will face...Canada
So India vs...Bangladesh.

So in summary...the fixtures.

Group A

Sri Lanka vs West Indies

Group B

Well youve got me interested, a very orginal idea and well presented, looking forward to the first match, obviously i want England to win but India have a very strong batting and bowling lineup and you can never rule the Aussies out so good luck.

We might just have a tournament in China before the olympics. You see jagmohan dalmiya is becoming the prez of Asian cricket council....Remember he tried to organize a tournament in disneyland

Australia vs Kenya

Hello and welcome to Mumbai for the 1st game of these Olympics.

Now lets head down pitch side for the toss between Ricky Ponting and Steve Tikolo, the Kenyan captain.

Dermot Reeve(RV): Well Ricky it's a day-night match here today so the fantastic light will be on full beam and would you mind telling us what you think of the pitch.

RP: Well it's quite damp and there'll be some un-predictaple bounce.

Here comes Tikolo and it's time to announce the teams.

DR: Well here is the Kenyan Team.

Otieno
Shah
Tikolo
Odumbe
Modi
Odoyo
C.Oboya
A.Suji
D.Oboya
Ongondo
M.Suji

And the Australian Team.

Gilchrist
Hayden
Ponting
Martyn
Lehman
Bevan
Symonds
Hogg
Lee
Gillespie
McGrath

DR: So here's the toss, Steve if you would like to step forward.

RP: Heads!

ST: Heads it is

RP: We'll have a bat, Dermot, the ball will swing under the lights and we want to post a good total so we can get bowling by 7pm.

DR: Steve, dissapointed to lose the toss?

ST: Well we are but it's not going to be that important here because of the fact that it's only 20 difference between the pitch conditions starting point.

DR: So Ricky Ponting has won the toss and elected to bat first here at Mumbai.

Dickie Bird: Play!!!

Australia 326 all out (16 overs)

Hayden 84
Lee 53
Odumbe 36-5

Next up: The reply

Could England compete in an Olympic competition? "Great Britain and Northern Ireland" is the team name in the Olympics which is why England cannot enter a football team and do not want to enter a GB team as FIFA would want to abolish the England, Scotland, Wales and NI teams.

Also West Indies couldnt enter a West Indies team as they would have to compete seperatly as each island.

Looks a good tourament though, the cricket matches could be played in Shanghai at the Shanghai Cricket Club -

well I dont think England could have a team at the Olympics for Cricket. It would have to be a GB team or in other sports England, Scotland, Wales and NI would have to be sepreate countries.
